history- Here.

Unfortunately, Loveless doesn't really focus too much on the history of background/minor characters, only hinting and providing little snippets of their past, leading the reader to make inferences and assumotions on what they do know. In other words, bear with me.

Kio’s younger years aren’t really ever mentioned in the manga, but based on his personality and how ordinary he seems compared to the majority of the other characters in the series, it’s probably safe to say he had a relatively normal upbringing and that he’s lead a fairly normal life for the most part. He was raised by his mother and his grandmother, as there seems to be a lack of male figures in his life, though there are no canon explanations provided as to why this is.

Early on in his career as an art major, Kio, being the friendly, curious guy he is, befriended another student: Soubi. He admits later on in the manga that at first, he’d only wanted to be Soubi’s friend because he was curious about the bandages the blond always wore around his neck. Kio has always been very strongly opposed to violence, and naturally, he was drawn to the other man, and despite all of Soubi’s efforts to ignore him, Kio never gave up. Eventually, what had once been a selfish curiosity developed into an actual - if not somewhat strange - friendship. Kio became Soubi’s only real friend.

It wasn’t long before Kio learned about Seimei and who he was to Soubi, what he did to Soubi, and immediately, he disliked him, openly stating that he hated Seimei and that he was glad when he died, if only for the fact that Soubi wouldn’t have to suffer his cruel, abusive treatment any longer.

Not long after Seimei’s death, Soubi began devoting a large majority of his time to Aoyagi Ritsuka - Seimei’s younger brother. Kio jumped to conclusions, assuming Ritsuka would be just like his brother, and as a result, his attitude towards him was cold and unfair. Upon getting to know the younger brother, he learned that Ritsuka didn’t want to hurt Soubi; he wasn’t like his brother at all. Kio’s opinion of the boy quickly changed, considering Ritsuka to be a friend rather than an enemy.

Much to his delight, Kio finds himself becoming more and more a part of Soubi’s world (though he’ll probably never be as close and involved as he’d like to be), meeting Natsuo and Youji - a pair of younger kids Soubi took in after ‘defeating’ them in battle. He took both Soubi and Ritsuka to Septimal Moon (where Soubi probably wouldn’t have let him come before then), but he was unable to follow them past the lobby since he had no affiliation with the school and what it involved. Frustrated, Kio refused the offered escort and opted to wait for his friends outside. Unfortunately, he was found and kidnapped by another Sacrifice by the name of BELOVED, and held captive in a jail cell (watched over by another pair called BLOODLESS) with no food, no form of communication, and no glasses, and essentially, used as bait for Soubi and Ritsuka.

Towards the end of his time in confinement, Kio meets a woman that looks almost identical to him. She introduces herself as "Chouma" and claims she's his sister, though he has no memory of her at all.

Eventually, Soubi and Ritsuka come to his rescue and they return home. Kio, curious and confused about his encounter with Chouma, Kio returns 'home' (though it's been quite some time that he's called it home, as it's 'a house of only women') hoping to find some answers. Here, he speaks to his daughter, Shikiko, though she seems reluctant to give him any information, denying she knows anything about the mysterious woman.
