Oz may seem like he's an extremely social person who likes getting close to people and establishing lasting friendships. to anyone. That's only partially true. Oz prefers to keep people at a distance. He likes being friendly, but he doesn't want to get too close he doesn't want to be a burden on anyone, and he doesn't want to cause anyone pain. Because of this, he tends to keep secrets and fake smiles, even if he's grown 'semi close' to a person. Deep down, due to his father's blunt distaste for him, Oz has issues believing that people care for him. It's logical, also, that Oz flirts with so many girls because he's looking for acceptance. He wishes to be like his Uncle Oscar, who is happy, likable, and successful. If he mimics the man's behavior, perhaps people will like him to. That is more than likely Oz's logic. It's unlikely that the boy is actually looking for any type of relationship with the cute young girls he compliments.
All in all, Oz just wants to see other people happy and is trying his hardest to cling to the happiness around him. He doesn't want other people sad, and he won't admit that he's scared of what's happening.
