From midterms to dress rehearsals

The past few weeks have been relatively uneventful. The last week of November was midterm week here at Hebrew U (which is strange because at the same time, everyone in the USA was studying for finals) so between my three in-school exams and my two take-home essays, I didn’t have much time to get out and do anything exciting. In the end, midterms were fine and gave me an unexpected sense of satisfaction at completing the first fraction of my college life.

The next two weeks were filled with rehearsals. I had to stay at school from 7:00 to 10:30 every night and practice for the show that is finally going to open tomorrow night (Sunday, December 18)!!! If you need a reminder, the Hillel at Hebrew U is doing Les Miserables and I’m playing Eponine. Although the rehearsals have at some points been aggravating and seemingly endless, I think that they will be worth the hassle in the end. Thursday (December 15) was our final dress rehearsal and it left me pretty eager for opening night. I’m not sure I would say that we are completely ready to perform for the public, but I suppose we’re as ready as any school production can be. Needless to say, I’m really excited.

Other than that, I have spent the past two Friday nights eating Shabbat dinner at the Jeff Seidel Student Center across the street from my dorm. Every week, a different couple hosts dinner there for whoever wishes to come. The food is the same every week and is not what I would call gourmet, but it is always nice to have a home-cooked meal with people who care. More importantly, the atmosphere is friendly and very welcoming for Shabbat. The dining room is always filled with people from different countries who have never before met one another, but like at any big Jewish meal, everyone opens up and talks to everyone else like they are all family.

Oh, and the Chaliks are invading soon.

Oh, and plans for Europe are coming together. On February 12, 2006, I will be watching the speed-skating finals at the Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy. Jealous?

I think things are looking good.
