Job Interview

Aug 11, 2005 09:51

Manpower (a temporary placement agency) called me yesterday with a long-term clerical position they needed to fill working for a company that does background checks. It sounded interesting so I said sure. What I also heard but failed to process* was the phrase "temp-to-hire" even though they asked for my resume and I sent it to them. I had an interview set up for this morning at 9:30. Last night I thought "Hey, I don't really want a permanent job." but it was too late to call Manpower back. I got up early, dressed up nice and was ready to go this morning then talked to Chalain, who said "Call them up and tell them you don't want a permanent job." My thought was "I can do that?...I can do that!" So, I did. I felt really stupid explaining why I was canceling but that's better then going to an interview for a job I don't want then possibly having to turn down said job.

As I said I don't want a permanent job. I want the flexibility to work full-time when we need the money; and 3/4, part-time, or not at all when we're not so strapped. I have a really hard time quitting jobs and I don't want to have to do that again.

Manpower hasn't had a whole lot of temporary clerical positions lately. Maybe while I'm still dressed up I'll go to Kelly Services and sign up with them too. Just because I don't want a permanent job doesn't mean I don't want steady work.

*I've been sick lately with bronchitis. chalain and I have a saying about ourselves when we're tired/sick/brain fogged: "He's/She's stupid."

chalain Have you had dinner?
chaliren I don't remember... she's stupid!
