Committee Work

My roommate (who attends the same UU congregation as I do) gently teased me last night, after I returned a voicemail from the chair of the Finance at our Congregation. I've been recruited to serve as a member on the Finance Committee. We have a loose (used to be hard & fast, but getting less so with time) rule that we shouldn't do for the chUUrch what we do for a living. Well, that never seems to work well for me - LOL! So - I will be helping the church in this way, which I am excited to do. It lets me share a skill with numbers that I inately have with my beloved community.

In the past two years at my congregation, I have served in the following volunteer roles:

-- Liaison to the nonprofit group providing ESOL classes to the adults in our county, including recruiting dedicated volunteers, serving as a substitute tutor, and being responsible for building security.

-- Stewardship Committee (twice, developing the theme of the campaign, etc)

-- Canvasser (twice, great conversations about the congregation & our budget!)

-- Budget Task Force (twice, developing the annual operating budget to be approved by the board)

-- Chair, Nominating Committee (Recruits eligible members to serve on the Board)

-- Member, Leadership Development Committee (served for one year)

What roles do **you** serve at your congregations? Are you like me? Do you have trouble saying 'no' when there is a need, and you have the skills to fill the position?

Have you ever served on the Board? Was it a good experience? I'd love to hear from you!
