The White House press briefing room was silent in the midnight dark. Silent, that is, until the door knob gradually turned, and the only slightly dishevelled head of CJ Cregg peered round.

“It’s clear!” she hissed to an unseen person or persons behind her. Surreptitiously she crept in, then in a stunning display of agility, leapt behind the podium. She crouched there for a moment, blending into the dark shadows as well as she could, ensuring that…

The bright overhead light snapped on, and CJ squinted, raising a hand to shield her eyes.

“Guys! We’re going for “super secret stealth mission”, remember?”

Toby raised an eyebrow, then gestured at the thickly blinded windows. “CJ, nobody’s going to see the light. And in the bizarre eventuality of someone wandering round the building at three in the morning, it’ll be easier to explain the whole lot of us here having an emergency policy meeting, than you and the Young Ones dressed up in balaclavas.”

“Though the balaclava looked good on you,” offered Josh, doing his best conciliatory voice.

“Balaclavas are hot,” confirmed Dean, shouldering his shotgun and leering - mostly politely - at CJ. Sam looked at his brother in disbelief, then gestured to the corner, where the carpet had been pulled back. Next to the bare concrete sat some species of heavy mechanical equipment. They stared at it for a while.

“So,” began Josh. Then stopped.

“I absolutely have no idea how to use that,” said Sam.

Dean grinned, and stripped off his jacket. “Guess those Ivy League colleges of yours don’t teach you everything you need to know.” He snagged the ear protectors that were dangling off the machine. “Where’s this distraction of yours?”

CJ consulted her watch. “The President will have as many of the Secret Service with him now as he could get together. He read an article this morning about how government employees have a worse understanding of economics than private employees, and he’s on a crusade to stop it, starting with the White House. He started lecturing twenty minutes ago.”

Dean looked impatient. “Yeah, but what are they doing now?”

CJ’s eyebrows rose. “Well, about now they’re losing the will to live.”

OMG, I wrote another part! OK, it's tiny and has no plot, but I'm still really excited!!!!
