A couple of gems from Grandma:
"He [Grandad] is flinging money around like a man with no arms!" (I didn't dare enquire into the etymology of that one. To me, it sounds like he's not flinging money around at all, which would be in keeping with one's usual perception of Grandad, but Grandma had just informed me that he'd driven off with Daddy yesterday to buy a new television that Grandma frankly and unashamedly admitted they did not need, and was planning to replace the cooker (which is, at a cautious estimate, at least as old as me), so I don't think she meant it like that. Hmm. Curious. Still, let's remember the twenty-spotted ladybirds, and be not surprised.)
"My foot's purple. I'm going mouldy. I wonder if I've got MRSA?" (Apparently Mummy assured her that this was unlikely to be the case. A wise woman, my mother.)
