An Enthusiast (Me) Explains Why he wants to sell you something...

Friends of Chalcedon,
Well I am here in a sense selling something but
only because I think you will like it and I want to
share it with you. It is a stage of development of
a book which is now at the point where it can be
ordered and held in hand.
the details in my entry on my own journal today:

or to go direct to the new book and the order page

Ehat I should like to try to express here in a few words
is why I regard this book as bringing something to the
table of theological discourse and being worthy of some
wide attention...
It is that it seems to me that in tackling the rather
abstruse question of Theosis ,the ultimate union with
God and by Grace becoming Divine, we have first of all
opened the question out by showing it as inseparable from
the renewal of Creation(Paul's whole creation groaning
in expectation) and the revelation of real human
community and redeemend relationships and society...
these are three dimensions as Andrey Cherniak shows in
his essay of that reality which finally is Life and it
is Life which is what we share with God, his and ours
as one life...
John Chico Martin's which I have posted here I think in
earlier form, is a tour de force in many ways opening out
the possibilities of theological discourse and Biblical
exegesis in his commentary on theosis in the Book of Wisdom
of Solomon. His rendering of Theosis as "Becoming-as-
Divine" seems to me one of many brilliant intuitions.
Christiansen, Plekon, Bostwick....well each develops
the theme and I would mention also how Fr Christopher
Savage of New Skete in his essay begins and ends with
poetry and how Dr John N Perkins opens theology to the
insights of analytic psychology which are also a
spritual commonsense refreshing as a cool breeze...
The effect is of an experiment in speaking about the things
of God in a way both deeply serious and also somehow
accessible to people now in terms of the spiritual and
intellectual world they, we, actually live in...

I am afraid this is too much like prose from a diner menu
praising the virtues of a slab of virginia ham , but if it
seems so put it down to enthusiasm...
but perhaps some of you will do the great favor of reading
the book (at this point in its development) and sharing your
response with yours
+Seraphim
