So, yesterday we finally got SiL's plans. At the last minute, of course. And ooooh, the passive-aggressiveness going on is enough to warm the cockles of the heart!
She's decided on a Christmas Breakfast with just her husband and kids for Christmas morning. Then, around 3 she'll be having Christmas dinner with her husband's parents, her husband and her kids.
SUNDAY she'll be cooking a traditional Christmas noonday meal for "the parents."
Anyone notice a theme here? Someone missing? Yep, that's right. Hubby and I aren't invited. She suggested that we take "the parents" out somewhere on Christmas Day. I relented, and said I'd go if we went somewhere nice (They owe us, by my reasoning, after all the crap they've put us through as of late!) It's really the only option if I want anything resembling traditional fare, which is what "the parents" want, as it's way too damned late to buy and thaw a turkey for cooking by noonish tomorrow at this late date.
Let's not worry about the fact that we learned of this a day and a half before, when most places that were doing sit-down wanted reservations by the 21st or 22nd. Or that any of the places that were going to do pre-ordered take-home had deadlines of the 19th.
Looking at the list of available places, I suggested the Grand Hyatt. $25 a person. At first, his mother puckered up and went all Mrs. Tightwad on us. We rejoiced! We were FREE! WHOOO! Alas, she called this morning. Apparently FiL has pushed to see if we can still go. So, lunch out on Christmas at a swank hotel restaurant. I'm actually sort of looking forward to it - but I can only assume that "the parents" are going to spend the time bitching about SiLs "selfishness" and her "ruining Christmas." Oh well, at least Henry gets to be the Good One, and rush in and save Christmas as best he can.
