What a birdy told me about the PS3

Now this comes from a Sony representitive...

- the PS3 currently has a 90% defective rate
- 9 out of 10 PS3 that come off of the assembly line do not pass quality control
- The PS3 at launch will come with a firmware disk
- that firmware disk will upgrade the PS3 to allow a connection to Sony online to download another firmware upgrade
- this firmware upgrade will allow full online multiplayer and full backwards compatability
-so from the start of unpackaging to when you can start playing the full game is about an hour and a half. 10 min for the first firmware update. 10 to 15 min for the 3.0 upgrade download. 20 to 30 min for it to apply. restart. walk through first time config. then wait 3 min for a game to install.

This is not FUD, this is coming from an employee of Sony that acts as a liason to its retail store partners.

umm.... I am gettng a Wii. :p

CORECTION: Its not the cell causing the 9 in 10 defect rate. Its 9 in 10 blue diodes used in Blue-Ray drives that dont work properly by end of constuction (large ammounts of read errors, etc).
