Ambition

There's something about summer that makes me deliciously ambitious. Perhaps it is all the reading--reading about incredible experiences and possibilities. Perhaps it is the newly found leisure time. I have time for my mind to wander beyond the present concerns into the possibilities. Whatever it is, I feel the ambition rising already.

Last summer, through hours and hours of breathing clay dust and listening to NPR, I started thinking again about how much I like foreign languages, and how much I've wanted to study abroad. I began looking at study abroad programs, which eventually led to going to China this summer (T-6 weeks).

A couple weeks ago, I was working on my design final in the Mac lab, when Joe (art dept. head) leaned over my shoulder and asked, "You working on a Fulbright application?" Typical of a Joe encounter, he just jumped right in. I told him I wasn't, but then he encouraged me to look into it. Just a few minutes ago, I glanced a little around their website. I was a bit confused by the vastness of the Fulbright program, but I'm considering it. Perhaps in China I can find connections to a program or somehting to connect with. Wouldn't it be great for me to spend up to a year in China in the future exploring something, and continuing to work on my Mandarin?

Beautiful summer, making everything feel possible. Now for some reading.
