Hahaha. I voted today. 'Twas my priority of the morning. Easy in, easy out. I was delayed a bit, but I brought along a book to assist the waiting, and I ended up being in line next to another NWC student, whom I chatted with. My favorite part was putting the ballot into the machine.
There have been some weird vibes on campus lately. Not cool. Not necessarily with the election, but with in-campus deals. I have been able to have a lot of conversations with people about the election where they actually listened and didn't make bigoted statements, even if they weren't convinced. I did get some people to feel a little more sympathy toward Obama (which they will need considering the likelihood of him gaining the presidency [Current electoral votes: Obama, 207 ;McCain, 136].
Today I went to volunteer in North Minneapolis and there was a ton of energy in the air. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Twin Cities, North Minneapolis has more of a minority and African American population than other parts of the cities. And the streets were flooded with Obama supporters holding Obama-Biden signs and drivers honking. When I arrived at the tutoring, the kids instantly saw my "I voted" sticker.
Artist asked, "Did you vote for McCain?" I don't know if that was because I'm white and so is McCain or if it was just an arbitrary question, but I was happy to say "no." Little Amarieah (age 5 or 6) asked, "Did you vote for Barack Obama?" And I gave a proud "Yes."
Artist's amusing statement today came while observing some Barbie coloring sheets.
Artist: Miss Charity, is this Barbie?
Me: Yes
Artist: (pointing to a picture of Barbie seated at her vanity brushing her hands through voluminous curls) This looks like you, Miss Charity
Good old Artist.
Well, I think I'll go back to watching coverage or reading or something.
G'night.
