DISCLAIMER: Don't read this if you're a Stanford freshman. That being stated, here we go.
Stanford has many traditions, some that are strange, others that are friendly and sweet. There is one tradition that takes place every Valentines' Day morning in freshmen and 4-class dorms. The guys wake up early, around 7, change into a nice shirt and slacks, and then knock on girls' doors and present them with a rose. Seems easy, right?
7 AM February 14th, 2005 comes. My roommate and I are dead asleep. Then somebody starts trying to knock down our door and we hear yelling in the hall. We both know what it is, but we would much rather just keep sleeping another 3 hours.
Then, one of the RA guys, in a tyrannical abuse of power, uses the dorm's master key to come into our room and shout at us.
"C'mon Troy, c'mon James, get up. It's a Stanford tradition, Stanford tradition, Stanford tradition, Stanford tradition..."
We both pretend that we don't hear him, but he keeps barking "Stanford tradition" until my roommate gives in and gets up. He is incredibly grumpy as he changes from his sleeping clothes. Props to you, Troy, for taking one for the team. And what did I end up doing that morning?
My friend's away msg from that day:
and last but not least, the infamous james g:
9:04 the RA even used his master key to come into my room
9:04 it was ridiculous
9:05 and i was like
9:05 um
9:05 no
9:05 and went back to sleep
HAHAHAHAHA that just made my day. and thank god faisan boys != james.
To my defense, half the other guys on my floor kept sleeping too. And I really didn't know of the girls in my dorm that well. I like to think to myself that maybe this year, if I had the opportunity to do it all over again in my new dorm, I would wake up. But too bad, I live in a house which means we don't carry out this tradition, muahahhaa. I guess I'll need the sleep for an econ midterm too.
So whatever you guys do tomorrow, do it with love. If you bake cookies, be like Todd, and bake them with love. If you're taking a midterm like me, take the midterm with love. And don't forget to treat your friends with love too. =)
May your Valentines' Day be as fruitful as mine, hahaha.
