I always knew my brother was stupid, but next time he does something this stupid he probably won't survive. His luck is swiftly running out.

Earlier last year he crashed at a race and shattered his humerus and had to have surgery to repair the damage. About a month or two ago, he was cleared to get back on the bike, after 3 months of physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Now this.

Here's some background: When my brother turned 21, he threw this big party at a wealthy friend's house. This friend has a stadium-lit supercross track and a wicked party room with a pool table and classic arcade games, the works. So he invited all of his friends to ride and then threw a big drinking party afterwords, with a band and a keg and everything necessary for a 21st. Since then, he's been trying to outdo himself.

Last year in January I attended his 22nd birthday party, much the same as his 21st but bigger and badder and more fun. I think he spent all year planning this party to make it the best ever. He invited two bands and planned these awesome drinking games, including the "Whiskey Throttle World Championship." The rules are pretty simple, you hop on a minibike XR70, run a lap around the track, take a shot of whiskey and repeat. Last man standing wins. Now, when he told me about the game, I asked him "Wins what? An awful hangover or broken bones?" He mocked me and still thought it was a great idea but of course I knew better.

The party was last night, Saturday the 16th. I got a text today from my mom telling me that he dislocated his hip and broke his pelvis, and that he's in traction at Harborview Medical Center. What a FUCKING MORON. I don't know if it was the Whiskey Throttle trophy he was after, but I know it happened at his birthday party. I love him so much and I just wish he wasn't so stupid. He will be lucky to ride again, and I'm sure he'll never ride well. I don't think my brother would exist without dirtbikes in his life, and he might have just ruined that. He is never going to live this down, and he will have tons of time to think about it while spending weeks in a body cast staring at the hospital wall.

EDIT:

So I heard from my brother's girlfriend, Jill. She cleared up my suspicions about alcohol and minibikes, and explained that the crash happened on big bikes before the party started. So I guess since he was sober and there were no minibikes involved, he gets to keep at least a little bit of dignity.
