13. The Sparrow, Mastodon
Last weekend I finally had a chance to listen to Mastodon properly as I got to see them live at Download. I’d heard a couple of their songs before and it seemed like they’d be a band I’d like and that was confirmed. Since then through the convenience of mp3 downloads I’ve been able to spend more time listening to them and they are just amazing.
This list is supposed to be songs which mean something to me, and ok, my experience of this song is recent, but it has made it into my favourite songs ever list. I’ve listened to it on loop during my commute several times. I just love it. It’s such a simple song and a simple message, but there are so many layers to the music and it manages to convey so much feeling in it, it’s just indescribable.
I’m not sure I can explain what it means to me but I think if you get it, then you’ll know. Otherwise, well just enjoy it :-)
