Got home way too late last night after the Decemberists concert.
I had forgotten how much fun
need_fire is to hang out with. We spent half the night making fun of The Balrog, a security guard who frequently chased people down to tell them, "YOU SHALL NOT PASS" down an extremely convenient aisle to get to the side of the pavilion with the food and hot cocoa, because that aisle has box seats in it. We spent the other half of the evening making fun of the other people at the concert. It was totally a good time.
The show itself was a lot of fun, too. There were three sets: Robin Hitchcock, The Decemberists playing through their entire new album, and the Decemberists playing some of their old favorites.
The opening act, Robin Hitchcock, was dressed like a my little pony, and really wanted to be both David Bowie and The Beatles. The things that came out of his mouth between songs made so little sense that I suspect he was trying to get us high just on pure ridiculousness.
The second act was like a band opening for themselves. It was filled with songs I had never heard in a style that was distinctly different from what I think of as the Decemberists style. Their newest album is a rock opera which, as far as I can tell, is about "The hazards of love", the only phrase which I think was repeated in every song.
When the Decemberists started their second set, I realized just how much of their music I haven't heard since I left Pearson. I had not realized how much of my music had not survived the transfer from my computer at Pearson to my computer at home to my external hard drive and my iPod. I should fix this.
but we're about to arrive in Acton, so g'night.
