Sword work (continued)

Apr 16, 2008 17:06

I'm feeling a lot better about my sword work, based upon a few developments since last I posted:

1) I fenced three of the people in my olympic foil class. I was undefeated against one of them, and won 2/4 (half) of the matches against the other two.

2) The shield isn't feeling as heavy as it did when I first started trying to wield it.

3) I am getting better at the set of drills I was talking about. I can now do 11, 21, and 31 (one is always the second digit of these drills, and it is pronounced "one, one") well enough that I don't think anyone will be able to cut my hand off. If I had more free time today, I would move onto 41, but I told DM I would help her move stuff.

4) I have decided to sign up for a LARP or two before The Blood Games to get a feel for the skill of the people I will be fighting.

5) I will be signing up for Zipcar tonight. This might seem unrelated, but it is the way that I will be getting to and from these events, most likely. It means that I will have a reliable way to rent cars, and therefore to carry my gear wherever I'm going.

6) I now have three blank pieces of wood in the shapes of shields. One is for me, one for Mercutio, and one for Dawn-Marie. Damn, these things are huge! I thought Merc's old shield was too small, but these might be too big! We'll see...
