When did the Internet become boring?

Dec 03, 2008 18:29

Hey Nikki,  remember about six months ago you posted that you were totally stunned at how boring the Internet had become.  Ever since then, I've totally been feeling that too!  Here's why I think the Internet is in a downward spiral.  These are my disappointments, but I have a feeling that since a lot of us had similar time wasting hobbies you might find some similarities in your own opinions.
  1. Web Comics:  I remember in high school, I had a daily (or every other day or whatever) regimen of web comics.  Now, I only ever read Megatokyo and I'll go months without reading it so that when I do get around to reading it I have at least a good bit of a story.
  2. Livejournal itself!  I don't mean to imply criticism, for I haven't exactly been the verbose thing that I once was, but I have noticed a steady decline in actual "journaling content" in our journals.  Most often we post memes and the few of us that do post regularly (not me!) are posting little youtube snippets.  Which isn't a bad thing, it's tremendously amusing, but the actual reading content has shrunk dramatically.
  3. Email.  Jeez.  I cannot imagine when I started to be glad of junk mail?  I haven't received a REAL email from a human being (not a corporation) in over 6 months!
  4. Instant Messenging.  I just cannot be bothered to turn it on.  Mostly because I don't really have the time to, but also because I'm so selfconscious about iming people nowadays.  Do they really want to talk to me?  Do I really want to talk to them?
  5. Yahoo Groups.  I turned off all the daily digests except lyondemere and Isles.  I'll probably go turn off lyondemere after typing this.  I cannot really go to anything down there, so I don't actually read before deleting.  I also have almost no intention of joining the lanceandcarla yahoo group, but now that I've said this, I feel guilty and will go join while I'm turning off Lyondemere.  Sheesh, it's not that I don't care, I just don't like the constant emails.  EDIT: Yup, I did go join it.  Did it really say FIVE members?  Come on people...
  6. Facebook.  Myspace.  No.  No.  No.
Jeez, complaining that I don't get any email and then complaining that I get too many.  I think the Internet is boring because I'm boring!  Don't I have anything better to do with my time?  (While Meeque is doing homework.... no, not really.  I get tired of cookig and cleaning and reading and watching TV.
