Day 27 - Candy/Sweets

The sound from downstairs, a sound of something falling on the floor. It wakes Kouchi up, and he turns inside his blankets, slowly sits up. A thief? A troll? A beast?

The door of his room is ajar, and the pillows on the floor where Taiga should be sleeping on are empty. Kouchi clenches his pajama sleeves tightly, biting down his lip. Did monsters come to take his friend away? They heard the stories about 10 years old boys disappearing in the night if the monsters approach their town, but could this be?

He tiptoes his way down the stairs, doesn’t dare wake his parents up because he’s a big boy now, and he wants to prove that he can control his magic. His hands are shaking when he makes it to the kitchen though, the place where the sound came from. There’s a shadow there, a figure leaning over one of the drawers. But it’s not big, doesn’t look scary, actually looks around Kouchi’s height. And what fell on the floor…

…a lollipop?

“…Taiga?” he whispers, and the figure jolts, turning around to face Kouchi, blond messy hair hiding his eyes. His mouth is full, and he’s holding a couple of chocolate truffles, and when Kouchi approaches even closer, he sees the bowl with the sugar gummies in the drawer, clearly affected by the raid as well.

His friend quickly swallows down, shaking his head. “I just wanted to practice my power, nothing else…” he lets out quietly, and then the chocolate truffles in his hand are already floating in the air, pulled back forth. “But I thought they would end up tasting bad if I practiced a lot, so…”

Ah, typical Taiga, always eating the most of the sweets Kouchi’s mother makes…

Kouchi shakes his head, looking down on the floor, where a few gummies are scattered. “I’ll think of something to tell mom tomorrow, ok?” he says, and Taiga nods, now finally looking a little guilty. “Now help me clean up…”
