Day 06 - Tranquil
They’ve lowered the volume of the TV so much, that by now they can’t hear a thing, and it’s just as if they’ve muted it completely. The lights are also dim, and no one is reaching to the table to get a snack anymore.
Juri lifts his hand, carefully pats Hokuto, who has been resting his head on his shoulder for the past hour now. “Taiga fell asleep.”
Hokuto blinks, cranes his neck a little to check Juri’s other side, and yes, Taiga has indeed fallen asleep, wrapped in one of the blankets they brought to the couch. It’s pretty late, after all, and the TV has nothing interesting anymore, they just didn’t turn it off because all three of them were lazy and tired.
“Let’s go to bed, then.” He says, and Juri nods, carefully turns around to nudge Taiga. Hokuto picks his blanket up and steps down from the couch, walking around it until he’s next to Taiga, who Juri still hasn’t managed to wake up. The older one’s face is hidden in the blanket, fingers wrapped tightly around it, and with Juri patting his head and caressing his hair, there seems to be no change anytime soon.
“Taiga, come on, it’s late and your waist is gonna hurt tomorrow if you sleep here.”
Typical Juri. Hokuto stares at the two of them for a few moments, running his fingers through his hair, as he finally starts feeling incredibly sleepy, too. But Taiga only hums holds tighter on the blanket, making Juri stare up at Hokuto with a helpless smile.
“Same old, huh?”
Hokuto shakes his head and crouches down as well, pulling Taiga’s blanket just enough to see his face. “Wake up, we’re going to the bed. If you don’t want to, we’ll just leave you here.”
He can see Juri trying to hide a smile, and for about 10 seconds, nothing happens. Eventually, though, there’s another sleepy groan, and Taiga reaches out blindly to touch Hokuto’s face, give him a light slap on his nose.
“…fine…”
“Works every time.” Hokuto concludes, and then he and Juri are already helping Taiga on his feet, who still keeps his eyes half-closed, stumbling his way to the bedroom. But it doesn’t matter, it’s nothing new, nothing they can’t handle.
They put Taiga in the middle, the boy too lost in sleep to protest, and then they make themselves comfortable on his sides, watching him and each other for a while. In the faint light that’s still in the room, Juri reaches out to touch Hokuto, a small smile on his face. No words are really needed during those moments, when time seems to be standing still, when it’s just the three of them and there is no disturbance, no rush, no worry about how and why and when. He finds Hokuto’s hand, and Hokuto holds it firmly, both hands resting on Taiga’s waist, as Juri leans closer to kiss Taiga’s hair, and Hokuto finally settles on the pillows, his face pressed against the back of Taiga’s neck.
And then they are all ready to finally sleep.
