"It doesn't have the same effect anymore." Zack squirms visibly in the couch, but his sullen glare stayed determined. "That's my final say about it."

Summer stared right back at him. "You said the song was fine last Friday."

"Well, I'm saying it has a problem now. Why are you guys making such a big fuss about it?"

Monday mornings were never the best time to hold a band meeting. Still hung-over from their weekend vacations, still groggy from a late Sunday night. Aside from that, being called for an emergency get-together before class even starts often resulted to very short tempers. Right now, all the band's animosity (sans Freddy, who was missing as always) was directed at Zack Mooneyham.

"Why? Only because our album is scheduled for release in *two months*, we've nearly depleted all our funds and we're still just halfway through! We can't afford all those additional hours in the recording studio."

A shrug. "It's not that big a change."

"Not a big--you think my trust fund grows on trees?" Summer's screeched in righteous indignation. "Why the hell would you want to scrap it?"

"Because our guitarist is getting some," Billy's voice rang out from the far side of the room.

For a second everyone gaped as Billy, calm flipping through his magazine, raised both his eyebrows and leered.

"W-what?" Zack spluttered.

"Please. It's embarrassingly obvious."

"I want to take out a stanza and suddenly I'm having sex?"

Billy rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll prove it. Read out loud those lines for us, will you? Slowly, and with feelings."

Zack hesitated, but buckled under Billy's challenging smile. He started mumbling the lines, six short ones, but the effect on Zack was instantly visible. For one, his squirming became more pronounced. "I can hear the sea in my ears, and taste the salt of it on you." He finished, and the scowl was back full-force.

Billy stood up and sauntered to Zack's side of the room, wielding his pencil like he was doing a lecture. "Ladies and gentlemen, notice the blush creeping up the subject's neck. I think that evidence speaks for itself.

"We all know that for all his sexy, brooding emo-artist image, our Zack here is at heart, still a prude." He paused and smiled when no one--not even Zack protested. "Or else I wouldn't have such a problem convincing him to wear those tight-fitting jeans. So. How many of our recorded songs contain subtle sexual references?"

"Three?" Katie answered.

"Three out of seven. He doesn't have a problem singing them before because it's all theoretical. Now, which of these three songs does he have an issue with? Only the one concerned with sailing. Can it be because what was once imaginary has finally turned into reality? If my sexdar is functioning correctly right now, I say he got lucky over the weekend. In a boat somewhere."

Zack let out a squeak, and his head landed with a thunk on his desk table. Billy smirked, looking down at him.

A thoughtful look crossed everyone's faces. Then Lawrence spoke up. "I guess that makes sense."

"It doesn't!" Zack's voice emerge from somewhere between his knees. "It really, really doesn't."

"Do you deny it?"

He started moaning. "Why don't you just mine the song for phallic symbolism while you're at it?"

"I could," Billy said cheerfully, "but I don't think I could get very far before you kill yourself in front of us."

"Haha. Can we now stop talking about my sex life and get back on topic? It's my song and I'm perfectly entitled to change my mind."

Summer had been biting her lips to keep from laughing, her money-related anxieties temporarily forgotten. She cleared her throat at tried to look business-like. "Sorry, Zack but as manager, I'm gonna have to decline your request to rehash the song. Musical or practical considerations, I can understand." Summer's lips twitched. "Nookie, however, is not a valid reason."

Zack only glared at her. "I hate you all."

Summer stood up and addressed everyone. "Now that the issue has been resolved, we can now focus on recording new material tomorrow. Please, *please* arrive on time, or I may have to hunt you down and drag you to the studio by your fingernails. Oh, and Zack, if you can just ask our drummer if he can haul his butt there and grace us with his presence, that would be great."

"Fine," Zack grumbled and slumped back into his seat.

And with that, the rest of the band trickled out of the room, enjoying the few minutes before homeroom, still chattering among themselves.

"I guess we're not going to lose Zack to monkhood after all."

"Yeah, that must have been one persuasive girl."

"Who says it has to be a girl, hmm?"

"Wait 'til Dewey hears about this."

"Hey, doesn't Freddy's family own a yacht?"

note to mod: I don't know how to tag these things.^^;; Sorry about that.
