"I might not, then. You're right," she answered simply.

McKay was, for a change, speechless. Of all the words and phrases Samantha Carter had ever directed at him, both in reality and in his fantasies, "You're right" was never among them. Of course, words weren't always an important part of the latter. . . .

"You're right, in that I shouldn't be going off-world anymore, and that I should retire to a lab somewhere. That's not to say that you've changed, Rodney-you're still an idiot." Carter held up her hand. "The reason I might be leaving SG-1 isn't to spend time in closer quarters with you, though. It's because I'm married, and pregnant."

The small metal band-overlooked so easily before, impossible to ignore now-gleamed dully under the glow of the florescent lighting of the lab. It silently mocked him, as McKay scrambled to deal with the shock.

"I. . . . I. . . . Congratulations?" McKay shut up, before he could embarrass himself further.

Carter smiled flatly. "Thank you, Rodney. Now would you please get the hell out of my lab?"
