waiting

Sun storms and solar tsunamis are a wonderful motivator to face one's fear of the dark. For three and a half hours I sat on the roof of my dew covered truck under an incredible display of stars. Every light in the farmhouse was out, my headlights off. I was the only person around for miles and for once, the darkness and complete solitude didn't frighten me. A warm breeze blew through my hair as I perched, feeling oh so tiny and wrapped up in wonder. As stars fell from the sky lone howls pierced the air from fields afar. A mere one hour north would have made all the difference but my camera still picked up what my mortal eyes could not; the aurora borealis. It was a weak display compared to the brilliant green lights that danced over the valley some ten years prior but that didn't diminish the thrill.
