Lantus Laments

My English professor expected asked us to write up a sonnet for the next class.  Now, my writing ability rests in the standard introductory/thesis-supporting arguments-conclusion paper and Transformers fanfiction, so I didn't start out too optimistic about this assignment.  Turns out, nursing can be a muse as well (take that Skywarp!).  After clinical on Wednesday where I took car of two deteriorating diabetic type II patients, a new sort of inspiration struck.

Lantus Laments

Unto mine eyes the room’s light does invade,
Soon from mine birth am I drawn up away.
Shaken, my sediments amalgamate,
now as solution I find mine dismay.
Poor souls of worth my wish was to preserve
but obesity has his health destroyed.
To use my essence, he does not deserve,
but this oaf’s poor habits type two employed.
into syringe the nurse draws out my form,
Prepared to force cells to glucose procure
oh, I loathe the feel of lipids, his norm.
Subcutaneous entry is ensured
Why has this fate to my poor soul been done?
Is it so much to ask to aid type one?

lantus, insulin, nursing, poem
