Chapter 4

Jung Yunho doesn’t know how he ended up in this situation.

First he’s waltzing through the cops’ headquarters and the next, someone pulls the alarm and everyone is now chasing after him like he’s a criminal. Though, he couldn’t blame them because his face has possibly already landed on the wanted list for being involved in a few illegal cases, which he still hasn’t been charged for yet.

That is, if they caught him.

However, regret was burning at the back of him mind- telling him, if only he didn’t have to go through such lengths to make a deal to find a clue to the culprit, then he probably wouldn’t be in this sort of situation right now.

After making a turn over the corner, Yunho passed the elevator lobby, thinking he might be able to escape, although who he saw afterwards changed his mind within a flash.

Kim Jaejoong.

His old friend- or thought is still his friend after having attempted fired shots aimed at him.

“There he is!” Another set of officers came running after him and he quickly bolted out of the elevator lobby.

Also, what came after was highly unexpected because Yunho could hear another shout calling after him when he bumped into two passing females.

Jaejoong was chasing him- whether he liked it or not.

- ->

“Stop!”

Jaejoong instinctively cried at the second he realize Jung Yunho was inside the police headquarters and infiltrating the criminal department, where all the evidences were being investigated. However to his dismay, Jung Yunho kept running and he didn’t even bother to stop as he shoved other two cops aside, leaving him even more deep in a wild goose chase.

It was beyond Jaejoong’s comprehension on how he hell did Jung Yunho get into the police headquarters without being denied entrance first.

Unless someone let him in.

An accomplice.

Taking out his walkie-talkie, Jaejoong adjusted it for signal before shouting, “He’s heading for the west wing! Look for an accomplice!” After the gadget went to static, Jaejoong shoved into his pocket harshly, hoping there would be officers around this time of day who would get the message.

He cursed when he spotted Jung Yunho making a rushed turn, almost slipping on his feet-which could have been the chance for Jaejoong to nearly catch him, however, he got through the door to the stairway and he missed him by a hair.

“Yah! Come back!” Jaejoong shouted, even though he realize Jung Yunho wasn’t going to stop but it didn’t prevent him from trying, considering it might give him an opportunity to distract the runaway man.

Breathing heavily, the two reached the bottom of the stairs that led to the parking lot and they were greeted with about fifteen other officers surrounding the premise once they exited the stairway.

Jaejoong took out his gun, aiming right at his former friend as the other man halted, turning around to face him one-to-one.

“Put your hands up Jung. You’re under arrest for trespassing on official property and infiltrating in unauthorized departments in the police headquarters.”

Finally, they have Jung Yunho surround and he complied with their request, putting his hands up and Jaejoong inwardly cheered.

They got him.

They got Jung Yunho.

And he wasn’t going to get away from them this time.

Even if Jaejoong has to spend another overnighter, he would rather see the criminal go to trial than to sit back for another coffee break.

- ->

“So why are we here again?” Hyunjoong whined because he was interrupted from his nap- or sleep, whichever it was because the man seemed to have a very dysfunctional time schedule.

Though no one could blame him because it was past working hours and the eerie middle of the night, where all the officers on the case were called in for an investigation. Meaning, Jaejoong went through the trouble to call in or drag- literally, everyone out of their homes and back into headquarters.

“We captured Jung Yunho and he’s in the interrogation room right now.” Jaejoong announced and that almost woke everyone up. Especially Yoochun, who was just about to brew himself another cup of coffee.

“He’s the culprit distributing the drug?” Junsu asks curiously and Jaejoong grabs a file from the investigation desk and hands it to Junsu. “We still don’t have evidence to convict him of anything yet, however, this is what we found in his possession when we caught him.”

Junsu flips through the manila folder and his eyebrows furrow inwardly, “this is Kim Heechul’s case.” He looked up and found Jaejoong nodding in agreement with his statement.

“Why would he want that?” Yoochun interrupted, leaning closely to look at the content held in the folder.

“Does it look like asked him? He’s still in the interrogation room for a reason.” Jaejoong answered as if it was the most obvious thing- which it was and Yoochun frowned at the implication. Hyunjoong chuckled and Junsu grinned.

“Anyway, the two of you,” Jaejoong pointed at both Junsu and Yoochun, each giving the lieutenant their attention. “Go search the evidence room and the criminal case records. Make sure there wasn’t anything tampered and look for any gadgets he probably planted there.”

The two officers nodded with a ‘yes, lieutenant’ before making their way out, leaving the quiet office and the lieutenant alone.

“What do I do?” Hyunjoong questioned as Jaejoong made a grab for another set of handcuffs.

“We’re going to the interrogation room.”

And with that, Hyunjoong follows along.

- ->

Jaejoong brewed himself some coffee when they reached the monitoring room, which was right next to the interrogation room. It was probably four in the morning already but he didn’t care because he didn’t want to wait or else, by morning- it’s still possible for culprit to escape if he was capable of trespassing in the first place.

It was nerve-wrecking to see Jung Yunho in the flesh and staring off intently at something that was probably not even there. The room was dark and Jaejoong stared at the tinted, which concealed the monitoring room from the interrogation room.

“Watch him.” Jaejoong ordered Hyunjoong, who simply gave him a nod from the monitoring room while the lieutenant stepped into the interrogation room.

The first thing that greeted Jaejoong was the darkness of the room, and then his gaze making its way to the only sole light, hanging above the suspect. He closed the door gently behind him, hoping not the startle the other man because interrogating criminals took time and effort to make them talk and hopefully spill the beans all in one go.

By the time Jaejoong made it to his seat, opposite from Jung Yunho, he placed the manila folder on the table and waited to see if the suspect would act in a certain way.

“You recognize this right?” The lieutenant started and Jung Yunho didn’t waver, but instead continued to stare off into the darkness of the room. Obviously, noticing the tinted window behind Jaejoong and the fact that he was being monitored for everything that goes on.

“Why were you trying to get this folder? So much that you came here, Jung?” Jaejoong stressed the other man’s last name, which then he blinked and slowly moved his gaze to the lieutenant, who in turn hitched his breath.

Jung Yunho’s eyes were always intimidating, Jaejoong thought. At least, it brought back memories on how they would stare at each other off until one of them lost and forfeited on a round of games. However, what they were currently doing right now was much more at stake because it was official, legal- and a real crime.

“Who made you do this?” he tried again but only silence met with his unanswered question and the lieutenant really wanted to ask the suspect some other questions.

“Why did you come here?” He repeated because after some repetitive questions he was bound to get some response, even if it may not be the right one. Jaejoong was good at getting the suspect confused over his intent and if he still remembered Jung Yunho, the man would cave in eventually.

Hopefully.

As if reading the lieutenant’s mind, Jung Yunho spared him a glance, letting out a long sigh of boredom because he was playing at Jaejoong’s levels of frustrations right now.

“Answer.”

Where did you go ten years ago?

Jaejoong wanted to say but he held his thoughts back because he didn’t want the CCTV to reveal the fact that he knew Jung Yunho and may have some sort of suspicious connection between the cases.

“How did you get in?” He said instead.

Quietly, Jung Yunho didn’t look away and Jaejoong slowly made a gulp, which was much louder than he expected it to be. However, he ignored it and observed Jung Yunho’s eyes lingering down to the folder that Jaejoong decided to pick up at that moment.

“You know what this is right?” He asked again. Mildly flipping through the pages, waiting to catch Yunho’s interest because if memory serves him, the man was always curious about what he had in his hand. Though Jaejoong could imagine staring at the other’s delicate han-

He stopped himself and changed his gaze back to the suspect. Even though he was successful at obtaining his attention, he quickly lost it when he abruptly shut the manila folder close again. He cursed inwardly at the opportunity and threw the folder back onto the only table in the room.

“You know there’s possibly one way to get you less jail time.” Jaejoong suggested and he could tell Jung Yunho was listening- not that he wasn’t but he was actually paying attention to the words coming out of his mouth.

“You have to tell me who put you up to this.”

He finished, noticing how Jung Yunho’s lips turned to a smirk, causing Jaejoong to frown immediately. Although, it didn’t last long because the suspect probably realized what he was doing and instantly changed the way his facial expression shadowed underneath the light.

Jaejoong just wanted to punch him.

No, shake him until he spilled everything.

Everything he knows.

And answer all of his questions, like ‘How could you do this? After all the justice you looked up to, how could you show your face here?’

“Tell me, who Jung, if you don’t want to be sent to jail for ten years after your trial!”

Jaejoong lost his patience.

A red light was blinking in the dimly lit room and the lieutenant noticed it was a signal calling from the monitoring room.

Fuck.

Hastily, Jaejoong left the interrogation room, telling a security guard to look after him while he head to the monitoring room. Though he could probably guess what it was about since he was basically losing his mind with his own questions and silences.

Once Jaejoong entered the monitoring room, Hyunjoong got up. “Junsu and Yoochun called.” He said and the lieutenant waited for him to get to the point.

“They found the drug.”

After hearing that, Jaejoong eyes began to widen and he wasn’t sure if Hyunjoong meant what he thinks he meant. “What?”

“They found the drug Spellbound inside the criminal department. They found it inside the investigation office.”

Another double shocker and Jaejoong had to blink twice before he spoke, “our office?” and if it wasn’t confirmation enough, Hyunjoong gave him a nod and the lieutenant’s mouth went agape.

He turned and went back to look at the monitor with Jung Yunho sitting there, the same way he left him and when he first came.

They found some evidence.

Now they just to find a connection to Jung Yunho and get a good confession.

Just fucking great.
