Sooo...graduation was today. First off, Congratulations to everyone, I know it was a long hard road. Don't worry, this entry won't be as long, tedious, boring, and pointless as Mr. Anticole's speech. It was a great day, the feeling of officially being finished with high school. The actual ceremony...i have few good things to say about it. the first, I really enjoyed Katie's speech. The other shorter speeches were nice too. That's about it, aside from the pure joy of simply graduating, oh yes and the band and chorus were nice. Unfortunately, essentially the entire class of males would disagree with me, and damn did they let us know. Just as people were rude, disrespectful and immature at Baccalaureate, they were at graduation (only worse). How many times did i hear "Shut the fuck up!" or "we don't fucking care" shouted by someone because they are obviously just too good for the graduation ceremony. They constantly cracked jokes and disregarded the actual program. No one was able to be quiet. It was horrific. I was overwhelmed by a sense of anger and aggrevation towards the other students, a feeling of embarrasment to know that I would walk across the same stage as kids who felt the need to "moo" at students they didn't like. At the same time its great to know i'll never see them again. The worst thing by far were the beach balls. The most mature students brought, and blew up during the ceremony numerous beach balls. Quite a few really, that everyone hit around during people's speeches. There came a time I could not hear Katie Stewart talk due to the incessant hitting of balls and laughter from their HILARIOUS jokes. The fact that Mr. Ekey had to take a moment to threaten us is so sad. The students also booed Mr. Ekey and Mrs. Canavan. I guess it is apropriate that the worst display of disrespect demonstrated by our class came the final time we will all be together. This is not to say I didn't enjoy the event, or absolutely love graduating, its more or less to say i couldn't be happier to be finished with my class. There were some other guys who were polite, i'm not saying i'm alone, but when an overwhelming portion of your class, as 17 and 18 year olds is not able to sit through their high school graduation with political representatives and their families present, its rather unfortunate. I guess it is typical of our generation. They fail to realize the importance of the ceremony or the idea of respect towards others, especially those who have succeeded (despite the fact that i'm convinced so many are so rude because they simply resent the fact that the person speaking didn't totally fuck up his/her life like the worthless person did). We also had so many students who felt the need to walk across the stage in a particularly "cool" fashion, as their friends yelled lines such as "you eat shit"...yeah cool.
Mr. Anticole also gave one of the worst speeches i have ever heard. The mediocre point he tried to make consisted of maybe 3 minutes of a near half an hour he wasted while rambling in his attempts to make not very funny jokes. The entire thing lacked any cinsistency and such things as bringing the mustang up and spending 10 minutes organizing a plan for clapping as students walk across was entirely ridiculous. I was remarkably disapointed at how unprofessionally he conducted himself. He spent the first 5 minutes covering up for mistakes he may make later in the speech, they started funny, got old fast. But he never really got into a speech. He kept saying "um" and then would just bring up some random thing about "things that are strange" it tok him 10 minutes to get to the idea of "education" being weird and how aliens would view us, but digressed to some other subject before he had a chance to solidify an important message for the graduating class. I enjoyed Katie's speech and found the message to see beyond stereotypes not only important, but applicable. Mr. Anticole's was poor in essentially every possible way except for the slight chuckle i occasionally had. He honestly spent 10 minutes trying to set up a plan for applauding students, where we either applaud after each name or at the end. We voted, we did an example where he listed way too many chemists, including Boyle, Charles, Marie Curie, and Avagrado. He also had the mustang demonstrate clapping, and emphasized the need to not clap a lot way too much. It became irritating and it was obvious among my fellow classmates.
Ok, so ultimately the behavior of most of my classmates ultimately brought a mix of anger and embarassment to me, nearly to a point of tears. It was the worst display of immaturity I have ever seen. I still feel great though, I'm so glad to be finished. And i had a great dinner at Mountain Branch...i think that covers it
