Depressing Haiku

Mar 24, 2010 23:36

Here's some haiku to cheer you up (not). All composed this evening with the aid of rum and wine. Don't worry, it's just expression!

Everything's condensed
All the years ahead of us
Will become a thought

Off in the distance
   A waterfall crashes down
Never ending task

Time is not a friend
   But a bitter reminder
Of the things we've lost

Away from it all
I can hear the distant drums
Yet I cannot move

Gravity pulling
   Feet firmly planted on Earth
Stars so far away

Inside is color
Like the brief passing of dusk
Soon becoming black

In the still water
   Reflections all seem so clear
Movement becomes change

The weight of the wind
With a mind all of it's own
Freeing or crushing

Like mud on the sole
   Life clings to the journeyman
Then dries when he stops

Familiar sights
   Bringing to mind gatherings
Of future hopes

Waiting quietly
A dog sits with his patience
Like the best of friends

I'm trying not to be pretentious, but these are some reflections of the current state I'm in. The last one came from my own dog trying to beg a slice of orange (gives him the worst gas).

I adore haiku for it's absolute simplicity and potency with only the briefest of implications. One can see a whole picture in a few words. If and when I have a bunch more to ponder/drink, you all get the benefit of the experience. Love, kisses and a bunch of transcribed melancholy...
