tire slashing goodness

Yesterday strangewriting called me and needed to get to the airport because one of his army buddies who was going to take him ended up having to stay on duty later then originally planned. Well, due to the fact that I can't drive on base (long story) he came to my place, picked me up and I took his car when we went to the airport.

So this morning I go out to drive to the gym to start my new working out thing, and I see his left front tire is flat. No biggie I think to myself, I get in my car, drive to target, pick up a portable air compressor (those little cigarette lighter ones) and head back. Well, I figured I would throw some air in his tire and drive it to a tire place to get the tire patched....well, no such luck. As I'm filling the tire with air, I keep hearing this hissing, I rub my hand along the sidewall and then I see where the air is coming out, someone had slashed the tire.

I look around, and there is 2 other cars around me with flats. I guess someone just went around slashing tires. So I get grungy, put the spare on Alex's car and head off to get him a new tire. There was only one place in the DC phonebook that I called that had that size tire (which isn't a common size 215-45-17). I get there, and no one speaks but a couple words of english. So I got to practice my rusty spanish. I did rather well, suprisingly and managed to negotiate for free balance and mounting.

So that was my morning adventure. It looks like I'm back to work tommorow.
