As if I haven't promoted this enough but here we go again . . .
On Nov. 1, 2006 (Yes, the day after Halloween), there will be an event for Locks of Love at Mesa Community College, by the Kirk center. Locks of Love benefits financially disadvantaged child who suffer from hair loss due to medical reasons, such as auto immune disorders, serious burns, and radiation treatment for cancer.
Locks of Love is really special in the sense that the wigs are made specifically for children, since most adult wigs are too big to fit properly. As well as, the wigs are real, look age-appropriate, do not require adhesives and can be worn while swimming or during various other athletic activites. Thus, the child does not have to worry about the wig falling off or looking synthetic and fake.
While the hairpieces are not a cure, they do help restore some sense of normality to the recipients life. Being a child and looking different from the rest of the kids at school is difficult enough even with hair!! Locks of Love looks not towards restoring the superficial beauty but to restore a sense of self that may have been lost, that most of us take for granted. The goal of the foundation is to help rebuild self-esteem in the youngsters.
If you are interesting in helping and need more information please feel free to contact me.
Remember it takes 6-10 ponytails to make one wig so if you, yourself can't help, PLEASE ask around!!!!
Hair will be cut by Toni & Guy (8 am to 12 pm is the best time to show up). It is a free haircut, but a minimum of 10 inches needs to be donated.
For the donation drawing there will be an Ipod given away. As well as, various other prizes from local business.
