You wake up suddenly in the middle of the night. You check the time, it’s 2:05 am. You slump your head back on your pillow as you ruffle your hair. This is the third time that this happened, Morimoto Ryutaro. This is the third time that you have dreamt of Chinen Yuri.
They were all the same actually, your dreams of him. You two were sitting on the beach one night, his head was resting on your shoulders, and your fingers were intertwined. It looked like a perfect romantic scene from a movie. But just when Chinen was about to say something, you’d suddenly wake up. And after every dream, you find yourself thinking about that particular message from Chinen that never reached you.
You pull the covers up to your face. Hoping that the warmth would make you fall asleep again, just like the previous days. But tonight, or rather today, it has failed you. Your warm and comfy blanket was just too......warm. Frustrated, you throw it to one side. You felt a sudden rush of coldness, which made you shudder. You sigh.
“This just had to happen tonight, eh?” You quietly say to yourself. You sat straight up, put on your slippers, and went out of your room. You figured that a glass of milk will probably do the trick. So ever so carefully you sneak down the stairs, go to the kitchen, and get a glass of milk. You drank the milk slowly, letting the taste linger on your tongue for a moment. And almost instantly, you find yourself a little bit sleepy. Satisfied, you decide to go up once again to your comfy bedroom.
Suddenly, you heard weird noises from the balcony right across from where you’re standing. Adrenaline started pumping through your veins. Is it Yabumama? Nope, he’s asleep. Is it Hikaru? No, he’s asleep too. Is it a ghost? Maybe... Besides, who would make such noises at 2:00 in the morning? You grab a broomstick to protect yourself from whatever person or being there might be outside. So with all the might that you have, you open the sliding door.
“AHA!”
“......Ryutaro?” You hear someone call your name. Wait, doesn’t that sound like...
“Chinen?” You look at the small figure all curled up on the floor before you.
“Hai...” He says to you with a soft smile. “What’s with the broomstick?”
“Ah...uh...this? Well...I...uhh...decided to...do the chores early today...” You managed to stutter out. This was the lamest excuse that you’ve ever thought of, Morimoto Ryutaro.
“Oh...starting too early, eh? Aren’t you supposed to be asleep or something?” He asks you.
“Well....yeah...but....”
“Can’t sleep huh?” You nod.
“Me too....ugh.” He ruffles his hair and you just stare at him.
Silence.
“Aren’t you gonna sit with me, Ryu-chan?” He asks you again. And as if by reflex, you sit next to him. Nothing much happened after that. You two just sat there and stared on the city streets. The lights were glittering still. Oh right, there are some parts of the city that are up and running until dawn. The cold wind caressed your face, and pretty soon, you felt drowsy. Then, he broke the silence.
“Why can’t you sleep, Ryu-chan?” He asked you.
“Uhh. I had a bad dream...” Chyeah right. Good one, Ryutaro.
“Really? What happened in your dream?” He asked you again.
“Well.....I can’t really remember...” You say.
“Oh....”
Silence.
“I had a dream too...” He says.
“Really?” You ask. He gave you a nod in return.
“You were in it....” He said softly.
“.....Really?”
“Yeah....”
“What happened?” You ask him.
“I don’t remember.....” He said weakly.
“Oh...” You managed to say.
Okay, so he had a dream about you and you had a dream about him...ON THE SAME NIGHT. Doesn’t that mean anything, Ryutaro? NO. Because it’s Chinen Yuri that we’re talking about here. Chinen Yuri is Chinen Yuri. Chinen Yuri is now with NYC. Chinen Yuri is busy. Chinen Yuri is now busy whoring with Yamada Ryosuke. Chinen Yuri is too busy.....for you. You sigh at this.
“Hey Ryu-chan...” He suddenly called you.
“Hai....” You weakly say.
“Did you know that, based on a psychological fact, when a person appears in your dreams it’s because that person misses you?” He spoke so fast that you weren’t able to follow what he was saying.
“Eh?” You blurted out. He simply gives you a soft smile.
“When a person appears in your dreams, it’s because that person misses you...” He repeated, this time a lot slower.
“Is that so?” You say. The milk is doing it’s job ‘cause you suddenly felt sleepy.
“Yeah. So that means Ryuu-chan misses me...” He said.
“...........”
“You do miss me, right Ryuu-chan?” You were so caught off guard with his question that you didn’t even know what to say.
“Ryuu...do you miss me?” He asks you weakly. Again, you find it difficult to answer him. Why must he ask this question now?
“Ryutaro...” He places his hand on your chin and he slowly brings your face closer to his. You felt your blood rush to your cheeks. He stares at you with those piercing eyes and you just look at him, unmoving.
“......Do you?” His breath caressed your face.
“I....uhh...I....mm...” You stutter. Great, Ryutaro, just great. You heard him sigh as he dropped his head. After a while, he looked at you again.
“Of course you don’t, you see me everyday right?” He tried to smile, but he failed miserably.
“Ryuu-chan doesn’t really care about me now, ne?” You saw tears form on the corner of his eyes.
“Ryuu-chan never misses me, ne?” A tear fell from his eyes.
“I miss Ryuu-chan terribly.....but he doesn’t, ne?” He said weakly. Now this was just too much to handle.
You pull him in a tight hug, then you wipe those tears that were now free-falling from his eyes. You don’t want to see him cry, not now, not ever. You caress his hair as you placed your chin on top of his head.
“W-what are you doing Ryu---“
“Shut up, Chinen. Just shut up....” You command him.
“B-but...you....”
“I miss you, Chinen. I miss you more than you can ever imagine... So stop crying... I miss you. I love you, Chinen..please...” You whisper in his ear. He wrapped his arms around your neck.
“.....Prove it.” He said to you.
You kiss him softly on his lips. His arms wrapped tighter on your neck as you deepened the kiss. You let it linger for a little longer then you break it off.
“I love you, Ryutaro...” He said softly.
“I love you too, Chinen...”
And you know that tomorrow, all will be well. No more doubts, no more insecurities. Because now you know that Chinen Yuri will always be yours at the end. And all the other things were only just a dream.
