update on my cousin
well we have some good news and some bad news. good news is she's pretty stable right now. bad news is she's still got a lot of stuff wrong with her that doesn't look like its gonna go away easily. the major problem is the pressure and swelling in her brain. normally the pressure in your brain is anywhere from 6-8, with spikes to like 12 or 13 when you sneeze and stuff. well her's goes from 13 to somewhere in the 30s when it gets really bad. the docs are giving her meds for this, and draining it when it gets really bad, but it refuses to get any lower than 13. the broken vertebrae she has will heal on their own so that's good, but it could cause some paralysis which is bad (duh). she's got pneumonia that keeps getting better and worse, and better and worse, so the docs are giving her stuff for that. it's just a mess. her doctors say that she will come out of this, they're just not sure how long it's going to take. but then we get a whole new set of problems once she does wake up. like i said before she could have paralysis because of the broken vertebrae, and because the swelling is in the part of the brain that controls personality, we're not sure if/how that's gonna be affected. but it's just one step at a time right now, and step one is getting the swelling and pressure in her brain down.
my mom, brother, aunt, and mom went to see her on saturday, and she didn't look as bad as i though she was going to. she looks like she could open her eyes anytime, and just start laughing and running down the hallway. i think that's one of the hardest part about this whole thing.
we also found out how the accident happened. it happened on sunday the 12th at about 10 at night. her and 4 of her friends were driving home from a picnic. well she lives in a very rural area, so the road they were going down had all these hills. and you know how when you drive down a hill you get this feeling in your stomach like you're on a rollercoaster. well that's what happened. they were goin down this road that had 2 hills one right after the other, and they went over the hills once, and liked the feeling they got, so the turned around to go over them again. well when they came down the 2nd hill the car didn't land right or something, and they started fish-tailing, and the driver swerved to miss some houses, and they hit this tiny littly ditch next to the road, and started flipping over. they flipped over like 3 or 4 times. during this flipping, my cousin and another boy were thrown from the car. the other 3 walked away with scrapes and bruises. the boy that was trown had a broken arm and a concussion, spent 2 days in the hospital, and was released. and we all know what happened to my cousin.
so yeah...that's all i have to say right now. ja ne.
