wow
today was a very interesting day. i got back from class at 1040 and saw that karen's away message said she was at the emergency room. so i basically freaked out, yelled "holy shit" and called her. she said that she might have appendicitis. she had really bad stomach pains last night too. and i feel bad because i just blew them off to be hunger from not eating after having her wisdom teeth out on friday. back to the story. so at 4 she calls me and tells me she is being admitted and having emergency surgery in about 3 hours or so. so i ran around like a maniac and got permission to go. got some stuff for her and got andrew to drive me over.
then i spent about an hour and a half with her until they came in and told her that she was up. so we went down to the operating room. i hugged her and told her that she would be fine. i think she thought that i was leaving, but there was no way in hell i was going to leave.
so from 7:15 she went into surgery and i made a bunch of calls and then went to the OR waiting room. her surgeon came in at about 8:15 and told me that she was out of surgery. he said that everything went really well and that she was going to be fine. so at about 8:40 they let me into the recovery room. i think i surprised her by walking in. she looked real good but was still really groggy. she asked me some questions more than once and just kept saying that she wanted the oxygen thing out of her nose.
i had to leave the recovery room at about 9:15 because they had another patient in there. so i went and made a few more calls and then came back at 9:45 and she was almost ready to go to her room. we went upstairs at about 10 and i had to leave at about 10:15 after getting her settled in a little.
today was just crazy. i am so glad that karen is just fine. i am glad i was able to be there for her, because i know that i would have wanted someone to be there for me. i just wish that i was able to stay overnight so that i could make sure that she was ok and that she got anything she needed. i guess i will just have to call her in the morning and then go by if she is still there tomorrow afternoon.
well, i am going ot attempt to go to sleep. we'll have to see how well that works. i am really exhausted but i am also too wired to sleep.
