It's Cooler in Missouri

Weird weekend. Thursday, darthcynthia was told her grandmother was in the hospital and not doing very well. So Friday, we hopped in the car and headed for Missouri.

Since I started seeing Cynthia over 15 years ago--at least once a year--somebody in her family said, "You need to see Granny--it's probably her last year."

But Granny has attitude.

If the world caved in on itself and magma spewed and all around people died, I'd expect to see Cynthia's Granny sitting in a chair, smiling, and saying something like, "There's nothing you can do about it; sit back--it'll get better..."

She's a tough ol' broad, that's for sure. While she's very sick, she sat in a chair in her hospital room because, "Beds are for the dying. Sleeping in them's okay, but to lie in a bed in a hospital room is accepting it..."

It looks like lymphoma and something else they have given a name to, but the name pretty much means, "We don't know what this is, but it makes people bleed to death in their own bodies..."

But Granny didn't bleed to death, and that illness looks like it's improving. And the lymphoma doesn't look advanced. At 93, this isn't good for the old gal, but it was great seeing her (even if she did call me Craig, not Chris :) At 93, I can let that slide).

She was so happy seeing all the weight Cynthia lost, and she complimented Cynthia on the way she wears her hair. That was the highlight of Cynthia's visit.

I dunno...this really may be the last time we see her. If it were anybody else--even somebody younger and healthier--I'd say, "That's it...this is the last time."

But you never know with Cynthia's grandmother. She's as old-school tough as they come, and no matter what happens, I'll always take some of that attitude with me wherever I go, 'cause it sure as hell got her far...
