This Time, No Tornadoes

May 16, 2007 20:25

My first glass class was cut short by the tornado siren.

I'm happy to report the weather was very nice tonight for the second half of the class.

I could easily go on and on about how I'm hooked, but in this case, pictures are worth more than words.

Gathering molten glass from the furnace

Rolling the first gather on the marver table

Go ahead, mfelps--make a glory hole joke! :)

Reheating the glass

Back at the marver

Adding color

Adding more color

Adding yellow over the blue

Assessing color coverage

A blast of fire brings out the metallic colors

That thing is LOUD!!!

The glass started feeling better as it got heavier

Cynthia loved the torch; how can you not dig that thing?!

You can see the glass is larger in this shot

Almost time to start shaping the glass

You can see the glass being heated in this shot

Shaping the glass

Using the jacks to create a break away point on the globe

Right before breaking the glass from the rod

I should have the two clear globes I made the first time and the globe I made tonight next week. I'll be sure to post photos.

And...something tells me there will be more photos of classes in the future.

I'm hooked!
