How Pathetic are We?

In this part of Texas, we really don't get snow. We get ice. One or two times a year, we get an ice storm and we all poke our heads out, monitoring the storm as though it's the most foreign thing we've ever seen.

Now we are doing it with rain. We get plenty of rain in Texas (usually). This year, as anybody following news knows, we're not. All around us are fires; darthcynthia's parents' old house burned down a couple weeks ago in a fire (glad they moved to Missouri).

We haven't even really had clouds.

But last night that changed. Reading journal entries from Texas friends, you'd think we've vener been through massive spring storms. You'd think we'd never seen rain. I've spent my time since last night looking out windows, watching it rain and sprinkle. Flashes of lightning are like something hurled our way from the gods, and the following thunder is them laughing at how we're enthralled by something we've seen a gazillion times before.

I'm like that little kid looking for a sign of snow or ice, only this time, it's plain, ordinary water.

But right now in Texas, water is anything but ordinary, and it's making for the most memorable day in quite a long time.

With windows opened and a chill coming in, a fire's going in the fireplace. The birds are going nuts, and thinking about it, many of them have never really seen rain it's been so long. The sound of rain outside and the occasional rolling of thunder.

Yep, not a bad way to spend a Sunday...

I'd write some more, but I have a fire waiting for me in the living room and more windows to look out, marveling over this "rain" stuff we're finally getting after a long, long absence...
