On the third hour of the twelfth day of the ninth month of his seventeenth year, Suzaku Kururugi was summoned to the Vi Britannia household for the first time. It was a momentous occasion, one that rang throughout the esteemed base of Lloyd, but perhaps that was because Lloyd had chosen to announce it over the base's PA system.
In any case, Cecile winced at her superior's voice booming from the ceiling. She thought that perhaps Lloyd should have kept it more quiet, considering that the envelope had been stamped "CONFIDENTIAL". Cecile would have to cut down on the sugar in his coffee the next day to reprimand him.
A moment later, the door slid open to reveal an attractive young man in his seventeenth year. His uniform was askew, one button off, and he had sleep creases on his left cheek; nevertheless, there was no tiredness in his green eyes, despite his wild nest of brown hair. A gleaming rectangle above his left breast pocket read Suzaku Kururugi.
"Shoo," said Lloyd, tilting backwards in his chair to stare at Suzaku. "You don't want to keep them waiting, now." He span around in his chair to look at Suzaku properly, his glasses glinting in the standard issue lighting of the room. Something close to a smile stretched across his face, and Suzaku flinched.
Cecile, Lloyd's second in command, smiled at the anxious teen. "I'm sure it's fine." She said, patting his shoulder. "But you really should go."
"But," Suzaku began to protest. "It's three in the morning."
"Ah," Cecile said, "but Lloyd received that envelope five days ago." She would have to cut down on his cream too, she noted to herself. She pulled the envelope off of Lloyd's desk. "You should go through it before you head over. 0800 should be late enough."
Suzaku accepted the thin envelope. "But."
"Suzaaaaaaaku." Lloyd said, his face growing more animated. "Do you want to see the new mecha if you're not going?" He stared at Suzaku, straightening up in his chair.
Suzaku looked at the envelope in his hand, and then at the clock on the wall.
3:10 AM it screamed in bright red numbers.
Suzaku smiled. "No, sir."

At eight o'clock that day, Suzaku Kururugi found himself in front of the Vi Britannia estate.
At eight-fifteen that day, Suzaku Kururugi was handed a file, including a sleek image of a rather attractive boy, if Suzaku dared to say so. He peeked at Charles vi Britannia, back at the photo, and decided that Lelouch Vi Britannia's mother must have been gorgeous.
At eight-thirty that day, Suzaku Kururugi slipped into the school uniform that was provided, shouldered the sleek black school bag, and stepped into the car. He glanced over the interior, taking note of the tinted windows, self-locking doors, the sound of the engine running flawlessly. He was willing to bet the windows were bullet proof as well, and he scolded himself for getting into the car so easily as he glanced at the Vi Britannia estate as it disappeared in the mirror.
He began flipping through the file that he was given, subconsciously recording the path that they were taking as he skimmed Lelouch's profile (black hair, violet eyes, skinny, unathletic, untrained) and the task he was given. The general idea was that of a bodyguard, from Suzaku's understanding. That was fine.
…you have been provided a set of books and uniform for your schooling. You will be accompanying Lelouch to his classes…
Wait.
Suzaku re-read that line. He squinted at it, and closed the file. He opened his book bag, slipping in a flash bang and his pistol, and looked at the other contents.
Tissue. Pencil case. Three empty notebooks. A math textbook. An english textbook.
He closed the bag.
He pulled out his cell phone, punching in the familiar number of the base.
"You've reached the base under Commander Lloyd. We are unable to accept your call. Please leave your name and a brief message, and we will return your call at the earliest convenience." Cecile's voice chimed through his phone. A beep followed.
"Cecile," Suzaku said, biting back the sound of terror in his voice. "Am I going to be a student?!"
