I've been toying with the idea of having 'event' weeks. Possibly, if the first one goes well, as a monthly thing (1 week out of the month). What I have envisioned is:

We agree on a pairing or a 'type' of fic/art, then the event starts during the first week of the month

Thank you for your input, anon.

I see your point. It definitely does deviate a bit from being a 'traditional' kink meme, doesn't it?

But, our meme is a bit non-traditional anyway. I think it's a lot more like a community than a lot of other kink memes I've been on - I don't know many other kink memes with a discussion thread, for example, and a lot of anons have come out and said this kink meme felt a lot more comfortable and more like a community than other kink memes, and that they liked that. I think it's fair to say we're an experimental meme? We try new things to evolve the idea of a kink meme, and sometimes it works (I'd definitely call the discussion thread and the random polls a success), and sometimes... it doesn't. This is just another experiment.

I see your point about it putting pressure on you to write a certain type of fic you might not be interested in. But I hope you do come back, because it will only be for a weekend out of the month (if it even goes well and we don't decide to abandon the idea after one try, anyway, and if 'Yes' even wins at all); the rest of the month will be free-for-all as per usual. I'm also open to suggestions on making the prompt period shorter or whatever you'd like.

Basically: it's an experiment. It might go well, and it might not. It might generate more or less overall interest and activity. If it's good for the community it will stay, if it's not and more people like you say they didn't like it, it will go. No pressure, okay? ♥

I already said this before when the RPing thing was a matter of debate: we're... a kink meme first and foremost, yes. There's other stuff, too (like the discussion thread) and there might be themes once a month, but still a kink meme above all, so worry not! It shouldn't affect the overall flow of this too much.

If you don't want to participate in the themes, that's fine! Don't. Please write whatever you like! :-) We understand not every type of fic is everyone's cup of tea, so participation is strictly optional.

Thanks again for the input.

(You aren't necessarily putting pressure on me. I just have this THING. It's called being raised Catholic. Guilt. If I could make money off of it, I'd be rich enough to just sit here and write fills all day)

Not trying to be flaming or anything here, but...with the RP decision, the 'make another post' option won but it was decided that signed in RP wouldn't be allowed because it wasn't really what the kink meme was about. I feel like this falls into the same category/reasoning as that decision. Yes, it's still writing fic which is more in line with the meme, but I still feel like that isn't the main idea of the post. If that makes any sense. /horrible at making thoughts coherent.

Hm. I think this is a bit different.

We decided against RPing because it's not fulfilling the main purpose: it's not generating any new fills. It also wasn't what the discussion thread is, which, while it isn't generating any new fills directly, has been proven to be quite popular. Plainly put, most people didn't like the RPing, and we as mods felt that the fact it wasn't helping anyone getting anything filled/didn't seem to inspire any new fills - fail on both fronts - it's something we didn't want to do. And as I said above: we're an experimental meme. Some things work for the community (the discussion thread) - it stays. Some things don't work for the comm (the RPing) - it goes. Trial and error. This event thing is no different. I'm tempted to quote a cheesy line about how only he who dares -- okay, stopping right there LOL

Will it generate more activity and fills total? Maybe - I think it has a chance to, because it has the vibe of a community effort, and events could be advertised at all the communities on LJ focusing on that type of fic and hopefully interest more people to join - and if we could get more fills and more people, then it has served its purpose, I think! And yes, maybe it won't - and that's okay, too - because the good thing about experimental memes with flexible mods is that when something doesn't work, we can get rid of it anytime.

*shrugs* Just my two cents. But thank you for taking the time to write your responses - you've obviously thought about them quite a bit. :)
