Hey all!
I just had a blast tonight going Contra Dancing. I didn’t think I’d like it (if you don’t know - though you should - I’ve always been *really* phobic of dancing), but once I got out there and realized that it’s not serious, and there’s always someone worse than me, I really enjoyed myself. Basically, for those of you not in the know, Contra Dancing is a kind of dance where you dance with a lot of people. You have a partner for one dance, but you’ll dance with more people than your partner. Most people switch partners from dance to dance. It’s a great workout, believe you me!
So, what I was thinking is that if I like it, perhaps you all would too…. I’d like to do an open invite to all my friends. How about on the 17th, we all meet up and go dancing? They do a newbie “this is how you Contra” thing from 7:30 to 8:15ish, and then dancing from then to 11:30. The dances are pretty simple, and they teach you each one. You can come stag, with a friend, with someone *more* than a friend, or whoever. You’ll end up dancing with more than them anyway.
Tonight I danced with people as tall at me and people under 4’6” (which was interesting).
I was thinking that after dancing, people could crash at the (semi) locals’ houses then on Saturday we could all catch a flick and maybe a meal.
What do you all think? The dancing is at Glen Echo Park (I can give you directions). It runs $9, but if you come back, the second time is free.
