CHARACTERS SO FAR: Naminé SUMMARY: Naminé arrives, and she wants answers. PLACE: Street of the residential tier, 3rd section, in front of the shop. TIME: Early afternoon, July 4th WARNINGS: None so far.
To put it simply, Yuffie was bored. This is getting to be a fairly normal state of affairs for her, so she wasn't really paying much attention. Instead, she was wandering around and around the street to put off having to find something constructive to do. The place was weirdly empty, but she guessed everyone was off being suspicious in their rooms or something.
It was on her eleventh circuit that she spotted a blonde girl in plain sight near what she thought was the first empty section. Someone new? Anyone who'd stayed at least one night didn't hold a newsletter with an expression like that. She sped up to a brisk jog and homed in, already grinning.
Hearing the sound of footsteps caught Naminé's attention. She raised her head up, turning to catch sight of the girl zooming down the street, and her eyes widened. It was the first person she'd seen since she woke up in this place, and that caused her to stand up, holding the newsletter loosely by her side.
She skidded to a halt as the other girl spoke, about a metre away from her. Wow, this one was short too. Height must not be one of the things their program looked for. She caught her breath, and then looked her up and down before smiling again.
Naminé straightened. She 'remembered' this girl, from Sora's memories. But it wasn't as if they'd ever met - so she'd keep that to herself, for now.
"Can you tell me where I am? I picked up this--" She held up the newsletter, looking down at it. "But it doesn't tell me where this place is, or how I got here. I don't remember..."
Yuffie leant over to peer at the newsletter, checking it was the one she'd gotten, then nodded.
"Sure. Huh... Well, this is called 'the city' by everyone. It's like this place we live for a while, since we have to adjust to their world before we can go out into it," she gestured widely to illustrate some kind of point, then continued, "There are about... uh. I guess twenty people here? From different worlds, because the guys who run it take us from other dimensions." She dropped her arms to her hips and grinned, pleased that she'd got that out. "It's actually kind of cool. And I'm Yuffie."
"Oh... Okay." Naturally, all of this made perfect sense to her. It wasn't exactly some kind of unusual concept where she came from, after all. It was perfectly normal. While Yuffie explained, she just nodded her head, finally letting the paper fall to her side again. It didn't explain why these people had chosen her or what they were supposed to be doing here, but it was something more comforting than a voice and a piece of paper.
"I know. --I mean." Naminé bit her lip. How did she explain her knowledge of Yuffie? "Sora-- he's told me about you. My name's Naminé."
"Sor-" She paused, then remembered that kid who'd seemed to know her. But he hadn't mentioned a 'Naminé', just a 'Kairi' and a... 'Ruki'? No. 'Riku', that was it. Well, it was time to bluff again, until she remembered who these people were. "Oh, yeah, Sora. Right! With Kairi and the others, right? Great to meet you, Naminé."
She noticed finally that the other girl was still in the plain black clothes they always had when they first arrived, and hmm-ed. "You should go find your apartment and get changed and stuff like that. And eat, since it's kind of lunchtime." Plus she was starving suddenly and food sounded like a great idea.
Naminé blinked, brow furrowing slightly at Yuffie's hesitation. Briefly she became worried something had gone wrong, and not everyone had regained their memories of Sora, but she dismissed her suspicion after a moment. She knew Sora, and had even named Kairi, so there wasn't anything to worry about. Naminé smiled.
"That's right. Nice to meet you too. Oh--" She looked down at her clothes, and then back up to Yuffie. "I guess you're right. I think I passed it when I was looking around. I'll... go make myself at home, I guess. Thank you, Yuffie."
