Hi. I live near Tacoma, Washington. For various reasons I am seeking a hysterectomy, and have been asking for one for four years, and prior to that I had an IUD and have tried nearly everything except the various pills.

Does anyone know of a sympathetic/likely surgeon in the Western Washington area that would be willing to consider the surgery?

Hysterectomy is a bit more drastic than just sterilization. If you're wanting it to treat a condition as well, they'll probably want you to try pills/injections first.

I am currently on Depo. I have pretty nasty periods when it's not controlled by medication - mood swings, heavy bleeding, intense cramping. I also don't want kids ever, full stop. I also identify as male, and it's ... aggravating for me to deal with something that is patently female when it's a completely useless and unnecessary thing for me to live with, especially when it causes problems as it does.

The last person I spoke to about it said that all these reasons combined would generally be OK reasons for wanting/getting a hysterectomy but I'm still too young (27). I'm really tired of hearing that.

I figured if anyone here knew where to go, it couldn't hurt to ask.

I wondered about the gender thing. Have you reached out to any local trans groups? They might have a good resource. If you don't mind, I could post on my journal -- I'm in the Puget Sound area and have a number of friends who are closer to that community than I am. A friend of mine got her sterilization done through her doctor, but, again, that's a somewhat different matter, and she's mid-30s.

I'm definitely sympathetic, even if I didn't come across that way. I have endometriosis, and if pills didn't work for me, I'd want it all scooped out, too.

Trans groups would be a great resource. Also, if you're lucky enough to be on hormonal therapy and are relatively far along in transition, you may have better luck convincing a doctor on those grounds.

I don't have specific knowledge of their OKness or non-OKness with trans people, but I do know these three docs are all very open-minded regarding childfreedom in women ( ... )

I know Everett is a long drive from Tacoma, but I really recommend Dr Kevin Pieper at Providence Physician's Group.

He is an amazing guy. I don't know about his attitude in regards to gender stuff, but he did my tubal at 24 and my ablation at 25, so.
