Halalan 2010.

HOOOOEEEEMMMMGEEE I cannot get over the fact that I'm a significant part of history now. Am I considered a full-fledged adult, then?

Everything about the whole voting process made me giddy. From preparing my materials before voting, to, well, everything. Like a virgin or something. I just lost my voting virginity, baby! I dunno, I always have this urge to commemorate my first times at anything significant, and this definitely counts as significant. THIS IS HISTORY. (Wootwoot!)

I went to the voting precinct with my roommate Ate Kira at about 5:45am. Voting starts at 7am but we wanted to beat the crowd. We got there (after getting a bit lost), found our classroom, and ate hot sopas while waiting for 7am.

Oh. And we camwhored, too. Most of the people who know me know I'm not much of a camwhore (in fact, I was a self-professed camphobic in high school) but this was a memorable event, dammit. We had to have proof of our endeavor. It's great that Ate Kira brought her digicam. Props to her for that. :D

Epifanio de los Santos Elementary School is pretty cool for a public elem school. They had tiles better than UP, for crying out loud. (Then again, this was only in the first floor. But still. Do you see tiles that new in UP? I tell you.) And we could tell that they only got a paint job recently. Anyway, they had lots of wall paintings which were quite pretty, and we took pictures alongside them. It was a little unnerving to see the people look at us like we were petty tourists, especially for a temporary camwhore like me, but heh. It's not like I'm ever going to see them again.

(Then again, I'm posting the pictures... so yeah. I feel ridiculous. But accomplished, nonetheless!)

Ate Kear in front of a pretty painting. This one's my favorite.
Most of the people who got there about as early as we did were poll watchers. What was funny was that the first voter in our precinct was not a poll watcher - it was Ate Kira. Naturally, I was the second.

You can't really see what's written in the call number, but I'm holding the one that says 2. Okay. I'm shutting up about that now.

Anyway, the polls didn't open until after 7am. Naturally. Filipino time, urgh. But am I glad that we got there early - by the time 7am rolled around, the crowds were forming around the voters lists posted outside every precinct door.

When we finally, FINALLY got started, they had a bit of a problem with Ate Kira. You know how it is when it's the first time... everything's awkward, and painful, and embarrassing, and no one really knows what's going on. The teacher who was handling the identification list was particularly a frazzled one. We had to wait for about 15 minutes to get Ate Kira through the process of identifying herself. Yeah. Talk about delayed.

Anyway, the poll watchers and the teachers assigned to our precinct were making comments like, "It should only take 5 minutes to vote," etc, etc, like they were pressuring us or something. Guh. It's a good thing I'd made a list of who I was voting for beforehand. Then again, I didn't vote for a single councilor. I didn't want to vote for anyone I wasn't sure about, and most of them I'd only seen on posters. That's not good judgment at all. I'm a bit frustrated I turned in a blank councilor's list, but that's me being a responsible voter, I suppose.

I was the first one to finish. WOOT! And got to feed my ballot to the PCOS machine first. Double WOOT! It was all very fascinating. And the pollwatcher and the technician were all, "Congratulations! Your vote is valid!" Yay me!

Then I had to go back to Frazzled-sensei. It was a bit frustrating because I had to put a thumb mark next to my name and biometrics on the voter's list, and they were asking me, "What's your number on the list?" Well, frankly, I didn't take time to memorize it, did I? I mean, IT'S IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER. All I had to do was spell out my family name and they'd find it in the last page. Duh. But Frazzled-sensei kept repeating the question, until one of the watchers who had more sense took the list to me and told me to look for my name.

I know I was mean, but I really had to say, "If you're going to make people sign this, ask for their name, not their number. It's in alphabetical order, anyway." I wonder if they heard me. I hope they did. It'd certainly make things easier for everyone. Especially Frazzled-sensei.

Anyway, a few minutes of waiting, and Ate Kira was done too. Of course, more camwhoring was in order - after all, this was the ultimate proof our contribution to history.

Ooh, first two voters! Aren't we SPESHUUUL!?

We got thumbmarks all over her camera, of course, but it's nothing that a little isopropyl can't take off.

And of course, to reward ourselves for our civic duty well done, we plodded on to 7-11 for celebratory C2s for 10 pesos a bottle! I would never pass up on anything cold and bottled and discounted. :D

The 7-11 counter guy took this. He thought I looked funny. Well, I can see his point. XD

So now we're back in the dorm for R-n-R. Can't wait to see the results - COMELEC promises they'd have it about complete within a few days. I hope my candidates win. Especially Gibo, whom I voted for. I don't mind if Gordon wins though. I would mind if Noynoy wins, but I'd mind a little less if Mar wins with him. I JUST DON'T WANT ANY ORANGES IN MY MALACANANG, PLZKTHXBAI.

Guys, if you're registered voters and haven't voted yet, please do! Do your part in ensuring our nation's future! Oh, and you get 500mL C2s too. It's all part of the fun in duty.

Ceyrai out.
