[Background info] (Crisis Core spoilers!) Born in the modest town of Gongaga, Zack was raised by his parents until one day, he decided that he wanted to join SOLDIER - an elite group of soldiers - in hopes to become a hero. At a young age, he set off to do so, and quickly made his way through the ranks. Angeal Hewley, a first-class SOLDIER mentored Zack and the two became friends.. Once Zack earned the title of second-class SOLDIER, things started really heating up. Apparently, one of the very few first-classes went missing during - Genesis Rhapsodos - and took many soldiers with him. After a few missions, Zack finally met the infamous Genesis, who referred to himself and all SOLDIERs as monsters.
Soon after, Zack discovered Genesis wasn’t the only one accused of betraying Shin-Ra: Zack’s own friend, Angeal, was as well, and was devastated to hear this. Zack soon reached the highest title possible in SOLDIER - first-class. It was then he was sent on more missions, and ran into Angeal and Genesis more and more frequently. Angeal and Genesis referred to themselves as “monsters” and Zack would refuse to believe it.
In SOLDIER, Zack met several people important to him. He quickly became close friends with an aspiring young chocobo headed cadet named Cloud Strife. And just as quickly, he became friends with a kind girl from the slums, Aeris/th Gainsborough. He even managed to become somewhat close to the famous SOLDIER Sephiroth, until one day…
Sephiroth came to a sudden realization. That he was created the same way monsters were created. He wasn’t human; he was a monster. The SOLDIER went insane and burned the village of Nibelhiem. Soon after, he and Zack got caught up in a duel, and Zack lost, severely injuring his back. Cloud came and finished Sephiroth off (as far as Zack knows, anyway) but was wounded in the process. The two were abducted by a scientist named Hojo and placed in these… giant test tube-y things for about four years. One day, Zack broke free and dragged Cloud off with him. He wanted to find their freedom.
He realized it wasn’t safe with Shin-Ra anymore, and that the two needed to start a new life. He dragged himself and Cloud to a truck, which would take them to Midgar. But Shin-Ra had known Zack and Cloud escaped, and sent… basically an entire army after them. Zack took down most of them, but after a while it exhausted him too much, and lost. He was shot several times and eventually died, but not before telling Cloud to live on for him.
[Personality] Zack’s shining qualities would probably have to be his strength (both physical and mental) and his determination. Because he’s been through so much more - for lack of better word, crap - than other people, he’s become much stronger. He had been betrayed by people very close to him, and those experiences have taught him to be less naïve and less of a reckless “puppy” as he has been called. Although, he does still have his moments where he’s as reckless and naïve as when he began SOLDIER training (especially the latter). Zack’s loyalty is unquestioned; he would risk his life for people he only just recently dubbed his friends. He has a good sense of humor and is a bit of a ladies’ man. Not to mention, Zack is also on the cocky side and ever the optimist. He believes in himself (until someone makes him think otherwise for a brief moment) and believes in the potential in everyone. Zack is also quite honest; if he has a problem with you, he’ll let you know. And he has no problem calling you a weirdo, but that’s never intentioned as hurtful.
[Abilities] As a SOLDIER, Zack was enhanced with mako energy. Meaning, he’s stronger and quicker than most people. (And his eyes are a really pretty color because of it, but that’s not an ability). I’m taking him from CC without any materia, so he has no magic power or spiffy attacks most of which he couldn’t use because he has no sword anyway.
