Working on Yenpress submission-Day 1

Nov 02, 2010 00:19

Today (and well for the past month), I’ve kinda be trying to avoid working on “Oeclair”. Its  one shot for Yenpress amateur talent search.

It’s a story that I was supposed to write way back when TP first starting RSOM, back when I was in 9th grade. Why work on a story that old?  well I didn’t do much with Oeclair because I knew then that I didn’t have the drawing skills for a full fantasy.

I also picked it because based on what I see in Yen’s catalog (and reading up various internet polls) action fantasy is most popular. Besides, I’ve been really wanting to challenge my character and concept design abilities so Oeclair happened to fit.

Not that I picked Oeclair just for that. I looked at 4 potential stories that would match and weighed them by how much I want to draw that story, how difficult it would be to draw it, how much I have developed already, and how long the story will be (pages/volumes).

Oeclair ranks the lowest out of all except that I want to do this comic now. I have just the bare basics developed but need to fill a lot of holes and figure how to piece it all together. funny though, its not the long story that gets to me…

Its this freaken’ one shot. I’m hoping the next chapter of Bakumen includes some kind of tip (since all are doing one shots). I’ve been looking up books and reading notes online on the do’s and don’ts of writing a short story.

One thing for sure, I have 2 weeks to come up with something and share it with my comic buddies because I have no room for error.

Only thing I did today was sketch her uniform….

I don’t think I’ll be sleeping much this month…

And I need to come up with 150$ or I wont be going to Megacon next march…
