Creativity Crisis in America

A tweet linked to an article of declining creativity in America.

Its a good read and in a way we creative types noticed this. I’m sure you’ve all been in a situation when ‘they’ say ‘we need a creative and new way’ for what ever only to end up picking the most boring/ traditional one. They rather a ‘tried and true’ method even if its less efficient then the other one proposed.

Add the fact that there is a general lack of respect, passion and care to encourage creativity in schools and in homes, this was bound to happen.

For a while now, I always wondered why most of my favorite artists, or cool people I heard about were from other countries. When any of them were from America, it was usually in the pocket areas like New York, Chicago, Los Angels, Portland, ect.

Its strange that I live in Orlando, where Universal and Disney is and yet, there is little much of any interesting thing going on here. There’s not much art classes here either and from what I remember of my science classes, most was spending time memorizing formulas.

I have to say, if it wasn’t for the internet, I don’t think creative self could last here. I already noticing the ‘stiffing’ of my work and I’m trying to improve it.

… but I’ve also tasted what it feels like to be constantly inspired buy your surroundings and I miss it greatly.

rant, links
