I find it funny that it's almost always none arts that come up with this debate. Even though, the person that should understand their work the most is the artist. Yet people want to keep up this useless debate long after TP's burst of OEL stuff.
I mean really, must we spend this much time on a word that hasn't been nominated to be included in our dictionary?
What is manga?
What we should spend more time on is the lack of respect for art in general in the US.
Payment for art is getting less and less, finding a good and affordable school is non existent, finding mentors is impossible unless you live in a major major city. Well, education in general needs some fix up.
To all those who's thinking to go to SCAD because they teach 'manga', news flash, they dont teach manga. The 'manga' class is an expensive study hall where you get to do what ever you want. If you want to hang out with other artists that draw manga style, cons are a lot cheaper, some times free depending on where they put the AA.
There's no local arts here in central orlando. Its either winter park (where there is an appreciation for small businesses) and maitland (i'm guessing cause real estate is cheaper). What we need is more support for artists, get them some exposure, let them grow.
We're in a society that is moving further and further away from quality and more about quantity and yet we're having debates about a word...
*side note: its been 2 weeks since the column on ANN The Gallery has posted and the last post I belive talking about a girls doujin convention in japan (as if japan needs more exposer to the fans)*
am I being a bitter? yeah cause it hurts for the amount of disrespect one can get just because their art is manga influence. you're not getting support from people who dont like manga and hostility from people who do, well where does one fit in? Its not like I make lots and lots of money from this...
