Unless you're planning on becoming a principal or superintendent or something administrative like that, there's very little reason to major in Education. In most four year universities in Texas, you'll pick your major, and you'll select that you want to go into their teaching certification program. (That's if you want to teach.)

Also, consider doing math or a science as a major, and you'll be more likely to be hired. Math teachers also have the potential of getting a 10k bonus per year based on how many students do well on testing.

(I've been researching this for a while, and my mother also just got certified in math and chemistry. She's currently teaching at Pasadena ISD, so I'm getting some good information on how all of this works.)
