A bit of sea music and a couple of questions about fanfiction.

One of my goals has been to post in my lj at least once a week and since my last post was last sunday it's time for another one.  I'd planned to take a comment I'd made on someone else's lj and expand it into a metapost, but that got temporarily postponed.  It's worth it though since the reason for the postponement was the annual Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival.  Four-and-a-half hours on Saturday and seven-and-a-half hours today of sea music was a wonderful experience.  I would post about the festival, but I'm on still on such a high that all I can coherently post about it is that Jon Campbell is the funniest songwriter working today.

I'm still in the mood for a fandom discussion so I'll post two questions I've been curious about for awhile:

1.  What was the first fanfic that made you take notice in a good way?

2.  What is the most obscure fandom, pairing, or character that you've found a good fanfic in?

The reason I ask these two questions together is that for me the answer to both of them is the same.

Rhyme and Reason by Michael Demcio in the Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers fandom was the first fanfic that made me say "Wow!"  It's a very long mystery story that centers on chip, but has strong parts for the other rangers including Zipper, who often gets forgotten.  Ivana M. Killjoy is a complex and fascinating original villian.  It uses characters and connections to several of the episodes in interesting and thought-provoking ways.  The story is pro Chip and Gadget, but I wouldn't call it a romance.

The link to the web version of the story is not working, but here's a link to a site that has a zip file of the story for download.  It's the first link listed under RRquest@aol.com.

Now I'd like to read other peoples responses to my questions.
