The other day I met a bear

So I've made it to the point in the semester where you get to register for classes for NEXT semester.

I've never made it this far at an actual university before. The longest I stayed in school (consistently, as an adult student) was three semesters at community college. And I did try two universities...but had to drop the first one due to medical reasons (plus, it just wasn't the right time), and the next one was horrible and soul crushing. JR and I both dropped out of school at the same time after that one, and didn't think we'd ever go back.

And yet, I'm here. There's only a month left in this semester, and I'm already planning  the next one. Hell, I've basically got the next year and a half mapped out.

...and kind of enjoying myself.

It's surreal.

Daylight savings is throwing me off. It's dark so early now, and it makes me feel--I dunno. Like I live at the Hellmouth, and the vampires are all out before I'm ready. I said "fuck it" tonight and went for a run around 6:30 (you know, when the sun used to go down?). Except it was pitch black like it was 9 pm or something, which made it feel kind of odd and borderline creepy.

Still, at least I got a run in. I forgot how much I enjoy running when it's colder out. I know a lot of runners don't feel that way, but it makes everything feel less arduous to me. And outdoor soccer doesn't start up again till MARCH, so I've got to do something to pass the time.

I guess I ought to notate the saga of the downstairs neighbors for future shits and giggles. Namely, their obsession with the bathroom fan. I swear to christ they leave it running for three hours a day, if not more. And it makes our bathroom floor vibrate. It fills our home with the sound, kind of like a lawnmower embedded in the walls. Basically, it is STRESSFUL.

I don't know if they have super stinky turds or what the deal is, but overall they seem completely unbothered by their own proclivity for creating noise. If it isn't her playing the piano badly for hours a day, it's their horsey laughing ogre friend who thinks "I Dream of Jeannie" is the funniest fucking show on the planet, or them congregating in the kitchen and talking loudly about WalMart and Jesus....or the fan. The fan, the everlasting, ever-vibrating fan.

Twice I've marched into the bathroom, on the brink of tearing my hair out, and stomped my foot as loudly as I could. That worked--they immediately turned it off, so they apparently understand the signal for "you're being fucking annoying" and can identify which of their behaviors is causing frustration. But then, they left in on today again, for another 40 minutes or so. So I dunno.

I think we're going to approach our nice landlord and let her know that "Gosh almighty, something seems to be wrong with our downstairs neighbor's fan! Is there any chance it might be "fixed"?". Etc. Hopefully that will work, we'll see. I would definitely not complain if these neighbors moved away and never came back, but knowing them, it's more likely that we'll leave before they do.

Going to bed, but before I do--latest facebook links!
