Vriska Serket Has All of the Irons in the Fire (A Homestuck Persuasion Post)

Jan 06, 2012 20:39

Okay, so, firstly I'm going to say that I got home from holidays and instantly got knocked over by deathflu, and most of this was written while under the influence of that. That may turn out to be relevant to matters of ... coherence. And such ( Read more... )

i love how half the characters are almost completely inexplicable, like, say, WV or jack noir

another fact: ms. paint is the main character and you completely neglected to mention this.

(if anyone else is reading this here is a comment with spoilers. it is a spoiler comment.)

RIGHT? he is the mayor and a revolutionary upholding justice in the future but he came from the present and then TIME TRAVEL. or jack noir, who exists in every universe but sometimes the same one just goes universe hopping even though he already existed in that universe and then one of them ends that universe later just for the hell of it because there is a character who was introduced in an intermission named "snowman" and

seriously, i hate trying to explain the plot of homestuck to people because, while you CAN go "it is about four kids playing a game that's going to end and/or save the world" it's so, so easy to get caught up in all the other STUFF going on, and it is the best. simply the best there is.

... it's also way too easy to get caught up in homestuck-quoting and referencing, endlessly.

ahaha, but the other hilarious thing is that every spoiler you just mentioned is completely incomprehensible. I don't think anyone could read it and have the least clue about what they were being spoiled for? *g*

And wtf wtf Snowman. How is she the exiled black queen but also the universe frog? Which universe is she? The one created in the session before the trolls? Are there more players?

he is the mayor and a revolutionary upholding justice in the future but he came from the present and then TIME TRAVEL.

Also, how MUCH time travel? I mean years in the future but not many etc meme on you crazy diamond, but when did the exiles actually arrive? Fandom seems to believe they were there for years before they met up, maybe because they rode in on the end-of-the-world meteors? But that initial "records a stuttering step in the sun-bleached dust" kind of suggests first steps. So I am every kind of confused!

and it is the best. simply the best there is.

argh. yes. yes it is.

That's true because everything is so comically, impossibly convoluted. I think HS is more of an ... experience, than anything else. It's hardest early on, introducing new people, because people (that I've tried introducing, anyway) get SO CONFUSED and you have to keep going "no just read it, it all comes together! DON'T WORRY JUST READ" and that's not always very helpful. ha. it's just a matter of those weird pseudo-spoilers all up ins.

Oh god, I ... I really wish I knew, with the exiles - the "but not many" is what really throws me. It feels like it HAS to have been an awful long time for everything to have dried up and gone to dust/desert, especially the area around Jade's house (pillars ...) but I don't even know if I'm remembering things right and oh god what is happening

It feels like however you talk about it, it's going to be misleading! You can talk about the convoluted plot and epicness and huge cast and ~feelings but then when somebody starts reading it it's just. A boy in a room. And ridiculous computer game meta.

It feels like it HAS to have been an awful long time for everything to have dried up and gone to dust/desert

Also! I was rereading and got to the bit where WV tries to appearify the cable and gets John's present instead, and the comment is that the appearifier must have been set to a few hundred years ago! Which doesn't at all fit the years-in-the-future-but-not-many meme.

also, good god is LJ's new commenting system impossibly terrible. i had to log in/out twice to leave that, and refresh the page a few times to boot, just because it decided it didn't want me to say any of it. maybe it knows i'm on the HS meme ... 0________0

The kink meme? Are you? I had a look at your AO3 when Mik mentioned you and Homestuck in the same sentence, and figured you mustn't be writing for it ...

I am! I admittedly haven't written anything for it in a month or two, but I do love lurking me some homesmut, haha. I just don't update my AO3 account. Or journal. Or ... anything ever except Tumblr, where I don't post fic, WHOOPS. '________' I like the warm, snuggly comfort of anonymity, really! I mostly just write John/Karkat though, whoops. I should fill something soon ...
