duel time, lovies

Jul 01, 2006 00:49

The Ball had ended, and while Cecilia had a wonderful time, she knew the real fun hadn't even started yet. Hiking up the hem of her gown, the Slytherin princess debated on changing, but then her ego got the best of her. Cheyenne wasn't going to be much of a hassle, and why waste time? Letting Draco and Mori know where she was going, she grabbed her ( Read more... )

"Protego!" Cheyenne heard herself shout, barely aware of what she was doing. The shield deflected the curse easily, and she used the miniscule gap in time that it bought to squeeze in a new curse she'd just looked up-- "Opugno" she tried, and three crows emitted from her wand with a bang, attacking Jacobs with a sudden, frightening ferocity.

Harry arrived late, but when he saw that the duel was already in progress, he moved up until he was lingering only a few feet behind the two girls.

His hand immediately gripped around his wand, although he kept it aimed downward to be sure he didn't use it. Nothing was more uncertain than facing off against Slytherins. They talked about fairness and being self-sufficient, but everyone knew a Slytherin would use any tactic to win when it came down to the end.

In fact, most Slytherins prided themselves on it.

Connemara had just launched an attack that Jacobs couldn't easily deflect entirely, which was a smart move. If nothing else, it should buy her a few seconds even if it did likely mean an angrier attack would come in retaliation.

ooc: One of the two of you will eventually be hit by a curse, yeah? ;)

[oof: I fully expect Cheyenne to go down any minute now... she really knows about three hexes, and only ever learned anything about Defense in theory. I hope Harry knows first aid?]

As soon as she heard the words uttered from the girl's mouth, she let out a shriek and covered her face with her hands. They crows came directly at her, and began pecking away at her hands and shoulders.

It took her a few minutes to battle the birds away, and this time, she was really angry. Her fingers were bleeding slightly from the pecks, and her shoulders stung. She couldn't lose this now.

"Serpensortia!" she snapped, and a vicious green snake appeared before Connemara and began to hiss dangerously, slithering its way closer to her.

Mori grinned smugly at the snake. It was the perfect way to finish up the duel. Cheyenne wasn't going to be able to hold her own for much longer. The girl was a pitiful excuse for a Ravenclaw.

"Won't be much longer now," she grinned.

Mori's smug grin infuriated Hermine, she bit her bottom lip and balled her hands into fist.

I will not get involved! she screamed silently in her head.

Just seeing Hermione so angry made it all worth it for Mori.

She crossed her arms over her chest, half laughing to herself.

Mori's laughter carried to her across the duel. Hermione's brain froze from trying to find a way out and focused on the Slytherins standing behind their friend.

"Something funny Mori?" She whispered, using a charm so the whisper would slip directly into the other girls ear.

Her head snapped towards Hermione. She had gotten to her and that was the sweetest victory so far that night.

"Nothing at all," she whispered, using the same charm.

Pointedly turning her face from Mori's direction, Hermione focused on ignoring her. Instead she began to think of protection charms she could use on the duelers so no one would get hurt. She wracked her brains to come up with something that would save them all from this ridiculous duel, Mori's attitude unnerved her, but she would not cast a blow if she could help it.

Cheyenne looked wildly from the snake at her feet to Hermione, distracted at such a crucial point that she didn't even see the next curse coming.

This was what Cecilia has been waiting for. Pointing her wand directly at Connemara's chest, she used a curse that wasn't taught in school. It was the blasting curse.

As soon as the incantation left Cecilia's lips, a stream of bright orange flashed out of her wand, and it hit Connemara right where it was aimed. Soon, the girl would be thrown in the air.

Cheyenne was off her feet and halfway through an awkward arc through the air before her mind quite caught up with the situation, and she managed a distracted, "Shit" before she landed on the ground hard on her tailbone.

"Had enough?" Cecilia asked, coming closer to the girl, her wand still directed at the girl's chest.

"I could do this all night."

Cheyenne made to scoot back, but found that her limbs were somewhat less than functional. She tried to speak, but discovered that breathing was actually fairly difficult on its own. Lacking further options, she raised her wand feebly and threw out the only wandless spell she knew: wingardium leviosa.

Feeling her feet lift from off the ground, she raised a confused eyebrow at the girl laying on the ground before her. She just sort of hovered in the air for a moment before being thrown awkwardly backwards.

"What in bloody hell," she muttered. Falling on her one knee, she took a slight breath and looked at the girl.
